A 16-year old African American just became the youngest black pilot to fly across the United States.
Isaiah Cooper is currently a record breaker for being the youngest and first black pilot to successfully fly across the United States.
Isaiah Cooper is from Compton, Southern California. He is a member of an at-risk youth program that teaches local children to fly.
Isaiah took off on the 5th of July and returned on the 18th. He flew from California to Washington Maine, Florida and other states in the continental US. He made several stops along the route as he completed the cross-country flight.
Report says that in 2 weeks the young man had completed an 8000 mile flight. He also nurses the ambitious intention of making a solo flight trip around the world. That will be another unprecedented record in the making.
At the moment Isaiah Cooper is accompanied by a flight instructor. By next year, the world’s youngest pilot wants to fly solo; thereby aspiring to be the first black ever to do so.
“There’s a higher power that’s always there trying to have you focused, so whatever you want to do, you can do it. Just put your mind to it.- Isaiah Cooper.
“I began attending an aviation youth program in Compton at Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum (TAM) when I was 5 years old.
But as I got older, I began hanging with the wrong crowd, doing seriously self destructive things that this was not how I wanted to live my life, I returned to TAM. My main goal is to become a productive young man with a future in aviation, and not a statistic.”
As attested by Robin Petgrave, the flight instructor, Isaiah who normally has a challenge of landing has improved over time.

“He was able to execute the emergency procedures flawlessly, got it on the road, landed, didn’t damage the houses, the schools, the construction crew, nothing. I mean, he got out of that thing safely.”– Robin
The teenage and inspiring African-American is out to break Matthew Guthmiller’s Guinness record.
While Matthew became the current record-holder for the youngest person to fly solo around the world at 19, Isaiah wants to beat the record by achieving that feat at 18.
