ITZY, the South Korean girl group has taken the music industry by storm despite being launched in February 2019 by JYP Entertainment Corporation, a South Korean multinational entertainment and record label conglomerate. The group has released a single album titled ‘It’z Different’ with a hit single ‘Dalla Dalla’ which clenched the No. 1 spot on World Digital Song Sales Chart and became the second most popular song on YouTube as it gained over 17.1 million views within 24 hours of its relaese.

They have also released other singles like ‘Icy’, ‘Want It’, ‘Cherry’ and their extended play, ‘It’z Icy’ that was released in June 2019. Although ITZY has only been active for a few months now, they have racked up many awards including Genie Music Awards, Soribada Best K-Music Awards and Brand of the Year Award. ITZY, the second girl group formed by JYP Entertainment is made up of five members named Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong and Yuna. Since they were unveiled in February, one of the girls named Yeji has endeared herself to the fans as she is regarded as the most popular member of the group. Through working as ITZY’s leader, main dancer and lead rapper, Yeji’s performance so far has been lauded internationally and in Korea. Below are the profiles of all the members of the group.

Born as Hwang Ye-ji, on the 26th of May 2000 in Jeonju, South Korea, the talented rapper serves as the leader of the girl group, ITZY. Aside from rapping, Yeji also loves to dance as she is the group’s main dancer and vocalist. In 2018, she became a contestant in a reality competition television series titled, The Fan, aired on SBS. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it to the finale as she was evicted in episode 5 of the series.

She has dabbled as an actress by making a cameo appearance in tvN’s Twenty Again in 2015 and Mnet’s reality show, Stray Kids in 2017. She was revealed as the leader of ITZY in February 2019 after the record label conglomerate announced that she would be joining their new girl group in January, having been trained for three years. She stands at a height of 5 feet 11 inches (1.7m) and weighs 46 kg (101 lb).

Lia

Lia was born as Choi Jisu on July 21, 2000. She was unveiled as a member of the girl group by JYP Entertainment in January 2019 after she was trained by the record label for over two years. She also acquired vocal tutoring at the Dream Vocal Academy and attended Seoul’s School of Performing Arts. Lia is fluent in English as she has previously resided in Canada.

Beyond being known as Lia which she derived from her English name, Julia, her other monikers include Cinnamon Lia and Honey Lia. Prior to joining JYP Entertainment, she was a trainee at SM Entertainment. She has a height of 5 feet 4 inches (1.63 m) and bodyweight of 47 kg (104 lb).

Ryujin

Shin Ryu-jin is ITZY’s rapper who was born on 17th April 2001. She is also a dancer and a vocalist. Having passed the audition for the reality show, MIXININE in October 2017, Ryujin made it to the final girl’s team that competed against the boy’s team which later emerged as the winner, thereby leading to the elimination of the girl’s team as they didn’t get to debut.

She studies at Hanlim Multi Art School and trained at JYP for four years. Just like the rest of the members, she was unveiled as ITZY member by JYP Entertainment in January 2019. She has appeared in the movie, The King and also made a cameo appearance in Stray Kids. She is standing at a height of 5 feet 5 inches (1. 64 m) and weighs 47 kg (104 lb).

Chaeryeong

Known as ITZY’s dancer, vocalist and rapper, Chaeryeong’s real name is Lee Chae-ryeong. She is a South Korean singer and dancer born on June 5, 2001. She attends Hanlim Multi Art School where she studies Musical Theatre. She started her career in November 2013, by participating in K-Pop Star 3, a reality TV competition alongside her sister, Lee Chae-yeon who is now a member of IZ*ONE. She was also a contestant in Sixteen, a survival show organised by JYP Entertainment. Chaeryeong honed her dancing skill at Kyw Dance School before joining JYP where she was trained for five years. She stands at a height of 5 feet 6 inches (1.68 m) and has a body weight of 46 kg (101 lb).

Yuna

The youngest (maknae) of the girl group was born as Shin Yuna on 9th December 2003. She serves as a dancer and singer in the group. She became a middle school graduate in 2018 and attends Hanlim Multi Art School. Prior to being announced as a member of ITZY by JYP, she was a trainee at the record label conglomerate for three years. She was featured in BTS – Love Yourself Highlight Reel in 2017. She has a height of 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 m) and her accumulated body mass is 48 kg (106 lb).
