Jane Fallon’s Bio
Jane Fallon was born on the 9th of December 1960 in Harrow, Middlesex, England. There are not many specific details about her family background. The novelist has however revealed that she hails from a family of seven and is the youngest of five children. She has also disclosed that her parents ran a newsagent. Fallon spent her formative years in Berkshire and attended St Bernard Convent. The novelist also attended University College London where she studied history.
Fallon first fell in love with books when she was quite young. As a child, her favourite hobby involved getting lost in a good book and it wasn’t long before she started aspiring to write her own. She wrote her very first book when she was just five. This was just eight pages of drawings but it nevertheless gave her the belief that she could one day be a writer.
Jane Fallon spent several years trying to find her own writing style but all to avail. In the meantime, she sustained herself by working as a producer in the movie industry. Between 1985 and 2003, Fallon produced several movies and TV series including EastEnders, This Life, Undercover Heart, Massive Landmarks of the 20th Century, Teachers, 20 Things to do before You are 30, and Single. She also continued using her spare time to search for the elusive writing style. All of Fallon’s hard work and perseverance paid off in 2003 when the idea for a novel came to her. She immediately wrote the story outline down and thereafter, resigned from her job in order to focus on her book. She was able to land an agent and subsequently released her very first novel, Getting Rid of Matthew, in 2017.
Getting Rid of Matthew was a hilarious story about a long-suffering lady, Helen, who is having an affair with her married boss, Matthew. Matthew later leaves his wife for Helen but she ends up falling for his son and so works to reconcile him (Matthew) with his wife. Getting Rid of Matthew sold more than 250,000 copies and made it to number 7 on the Nielsen Bookscan Fiction Top 10 in 2007. The novel also received positive reviews from critics and readers alike. Since this fabulous debut, Jane Fallon has released other bestselling books such as Got You Back (2008), Foursome (2010), The Ugly Sister (2011), Skeletons (2014), Strictly Between Us (2016), My Sweet Revenge (2017), Faking Friends (2018) and Tell Me a Secret (2019).
Jane Fallon’s Family
Jane Fallon is not married but has been in a long-term relationship with Ricky Gervais. Gervais is a popular stand-up comic, writer, actor and director. He has headlined several multinational tours and also hosted many popular podcasts. He is, however, most famous for the legendary TV series, The Office; which he also co-wrote and co-directed. The Office spurned successful remakes in several countries including the United States of America. It also fetched Gervais several awards including best comedy actor at the 2002 British Comedy Awards and best actor in a TV series (musical or comedy) at the 2004 Golden Globe Awards.
Fallon first met Gervais in 1982 while they were both students at University College London. They commenced a relationship that same year and have been together ever since then. Despite the longevity of their relationship, the couple made a conscious decision not to get married. According to them, “there is no point in us having an actual ceremony before the eyes of God because there is no God”. Fallon and her man also made the conscious decision not to have kids.
The novelist has revealed that she didn’t want to procreate because she is a natural worrier and wouldn’t have be able to cope with the thought of her children being out in the dangerous world. This paranoid instinct made her decide not to have kids so that she won’t smother them with her protectiveness. Luckily for Fallon, she fell in love with a man who is also not crazy about having kids and it worked out for them.
