Jay Z was born Shawn Corey Carter on 4th December 1969, in Brooklyn, a neighbourhood that was crime-filled. He was said to have been abandoned at the age of 10 by his father Adnes Reeves but eventually reconciled with him before he died in 2003 from a liver-related disease. As a kid, he was raised by his single mother Gloria Carter with his three elder siblings Andrea “Annie” Carter, Michele “Mickey” Carter, and Eric Carter who he shot when he was 12.
