Known as Somi, Jeon So-mi is a half Canadian, half Korean vocalist cum songwriter based in South Korea. The beautiful singer is best recognized for her performance in Produce 101 – the Mnet’s survival reality program where she emerged the winner. She gained another level of fame following her debut in the defunct South Korean all-girl group popularly known as I.O.I. After the group disbanded, Somi later went solo with her first single Birthday, released on the 13th of June 2019. She is presently signed to The Black Label.

1. Jeon So-mi is of Mixed Ancestry
According to available records, Jeon So-mi or Ennik Somi Douma as her given name implies has her date of birth listed as the 9th of March 2001 and she is a Canadian national born in Ontario, Canada. Everything about the singer’s background is all out in the open, thanks to the fact that her family is heavily involved in the entertainment industry. Her dad Matthew Douma – a Dutch Canadian native was part of the cast of Descendants of the Sun, while she has appeared in a few productions alongside her sister Evelyn, who is younger than her by a few years. Somi’s Korean side is from her mother Jeon Sun-hee.
Jeon So-mi’s family relocated to South Korea after she turned one. There, she was exposed to a lot of bullying and harassment, as a result of her mixed ancestry. According to the artist, it was not possible for her to make plenty of friends, thus, she wanted to undergo plastic surgery in a bid to look more Korean. The young musician later gained a third-degree black belt in taekwondo, but unlike her dad, she did not succeed in gaining the fourth degree due to her age.

Jeon So-mi was a student at Cheongdam Middle School graduating on the 3rd of February 2017. During her school days, the talented artist showed up on Let’s Go! Dream Team Season 2 – Special edition of KBS2’s Children’s Day program. Somi was there in 2013 to represent the Taekwondo demonstration team of her school – Midong Elementary School, pairing with Park Joon-Hyung.

The Korean based vocalist accomplished her first solo endorsement deal in July 2017 and it was with Fanta – a beverage brand of the coca-cola bottling company. Jeon So-mi took part in the campaign for Reebok Classi’s SS18 dubbed Always Classic in January 2018.
Other celebs that were scouted for the same campaign were Rae Sremmurd, Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid, and many others but Reebok’s senior director brand management – Caroline Machen chose to favor Somi. Other endorsements followed in quick succession because by the next month lifestyle sports brand known as Beanpole Sports selected Jeon So-mi alongside Ong Seong-wu as their brand’s advert models. 20th of May 2019 saw the vocalist being picked by Shiseido Korea cosmetics as their brand ambassador.

Although the details of her general body statistics are not available, the singer’s official profile has always listed her as 5 feet 7 inches tall. However, she later confirmed that her real height was actually 5 feet 8 inches, but she was averse to admitting it for fear that fans would see her as too tall.

Since the disbandment of I.O.I, Jeon So-mi has been quite busy working under her label as a solo artist and has been participating in several events.
