Jesy Nelson’s Age, Ethnicity and Early Life
Jesy Nelson was born on June 14, 1991, to her parents, John Nelson and Janice White in Romford, London. She is the second child in the Nelson family which had two girls and two boys. As for her ethnicity, she is believed to be white.
Today, she might be seen as an international music star, but life was rough for Jesy while growing up because of body weight challenges and the fact that her parents separated when she was five years old, with her mother left to raise four children on her own with a Police Community Service Officer salary. This caused the Nelsons to move from home to home due to their inability to maintain the payment of rent. Despite the challenges of her family life, Jesy Nelson was able to go through and complete her formal education which began at Jo Richardson Community School, then Abbs Cross Academy and Arts College, and then Sylvia Young and Yvonne Rhodes Theatre Schools.
It was in these schools that her talents as a singer began to manifest and she decided to take them for a showcase at one of the biggest singing platforms in the world – The X Factor in 2011. Unfortunately, Jesy was unable to scale past the audition process as a solo artist but was considered good enough to become a part of a group, Rhythm Mix.
Rhythm Mix would go on to later become Little Mix but first they had to scale their performances in The X Factor live shows and they did remarkably. Her performance of songs like If I Were A Boy helped Little Mix to become the first group to win The X Factor.
After their X Factor victory, the group released multiple singles from their debut album – DNA. Their first album was a commercial success that reached number three on UK charts and number four on the Billboard 200. Since their first album dropped, they have gone on to release four more albums with multiple concert tours and shows. The group has also received multiple award nominations from iHeart Radio, MTV Europe, Billboard Latin Music, and Global Music Awards.
Jesy Nelson has spent the majority of her life getting bullied for her body size. Right from the beginning of school age to adulthood, she has been the subject of taunts and ridicule for her body size, but in Little Mix, she has found a group of people who love her as a person and her talents rather than her body image. The group has also used its influence and platform to commit to different charity and philanthropy projects, including The Big March and Sports Relief project.
