Jim Hoffer is an Emmy Award-winning journalist who works as an investigative reporter for Eyewitness News, New York City. In his over two decades of investigative journalism, Hoffer has been at the front lines of several crucial stories from the 9/11 attack to the crash of American Flight 587 to the 2003 Blackout. On top of that, his undercover investigations have led to stricter regulations on New York state gun shows in order to protect military vessels. Jim Hoffer used to be married to MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-host, Mika Brzezinski, with whom he has two daughters.
Jim Hoffer’s Biography
Jim’s initial passion for journalism spurred him to study communication and media at Temple University, Philadelphia many years after he was born on November 1, 1963, to Patricia Hoofer (Lititz) in New York, United States. He currently holds a bachelor of Arts degree in communication and media.
Following his graduation from college, Hoffer joined WTIC-TV as an investigative journalist. Soon, he moved to Channel 7’s Eyewitness News Investigative Team in June of 1998. He would remain with Channel 7’s ENIT for the next two decades. Through his efforts, there have been notable reviews in security laws in several states across the US, as well as the apprehension and imprisonment of corrupt individuals.
Hoffer’s controversial reports about a New Jersey-based Transit engineer operating trains despite losing his license led to the dismissal of the engineer from the rail service. It, in turn, raised doubts and mixed feelings among viewers with some stating that the dismissal was unwarranted. Likewise, Hoffer’s ‘nosy’ journalism blew the cover from off a massive Medicaid fraud operation in Harlem; leading to the swift closure of the office.
Hoffer has also taken the front line on major happenings in US recent history. He has been at the helm of almost every major story, especially in New York; from the 9/11 terrorist attack to the Superstorm Sandy, to the blackout in 2003, to the flight 587 air disaster, to several trains derail stories and several others.
Following the release of his reports on several undercover investigations, Hoffer’s findings prompted New York lawmakers to shut down New York’s gun show, requiring background checks for every gun purchased within the state.
These efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, Hoffer has clinched a sizeable number of Emmy Awards, Peabody Award, and the Columbia University’s prestigious DuPont Award. Also, he won the national Edward R. Murrow Award for series of investigative reports on the utility company, Con Ed.

Jim Hoffer’s Children and Wife – Mika Brzezinski
Jim Hoffer married his longtime sweetheart, Mika Brzezinski in October of 1993. The marriage ceremony held on Block Island, Rhode Island at the West Side church in the presence of family members and close relatives. The couple met in 1992 while they were both working at the WTHN-TV, in New Haven and Connecticut ABC affiliate. Brzezinski is a TV host, political commentator, author and daughter of Zbigniew Kazimierz Brzeziński; national security adviser to former US President, Jimmy Carter.
The union produced two daughters; Emilie and Carlie. Emilie, the older, was born in 1996 and recently graduated from John Hopkins University. Carlie was born in 1998 and currently studies at Dartmouth College. They both attended Bronxville High School.
After 23 years together, tragedy struck when the Hoffer and Mika separated in 2013 and later divorced in June 2016 due to what they called “irreconcilable differences”. Trouble began when Brzezinski’s affair with Joe Scarborough, a former Republican Congressman, became news.
Prior to their divorce, news was making the rounds that Brzeziński was already having an extramarital affair with former Republican Congressman and co-worker, Joe Scarborough. Scarborough’s second marriage to Susan Warren had failed back in 2013. Although Brzezinski and Scarborough denied the reports, it sure led to a split in Brzezinski’s marriage to Hoffer. Following the divorce, Scarborough and Brzezinski decided to formalize their feelings and the duo got engaged in early 2017. On November 24, 2018, they eventually got married.
Hoffer stands at approximately 6 feet tall, he has brown eyes and wears light brown hair. He currently resides in Manhattan, New York and spends his leisure time cycling and swimming.
