Joe Mettle has engraved his name as one of the most talented Ghanaian gospel singers for a while now. But this time around, looking a little away from his career, he has tied the knot to his girlfriend, Salomey Selassie Dzisa.
As one of the most eligible bachelors in the country before he found for himself a wife, Joe was linked to a number of women in the past, including those having a crush on him and those he was allegedly dating. However, his marriage to his now-wife came to many as a surprise because her name was never mentioned. The union is still pretty new, but it has generated some controversies as regards why they rushed to get married and the past life of his wife before their paths first crossed.
How Joe Mettle And Selassie Dzisa First Met
The love story between the Ghanaian gospel singer and Selassie started years ago even before Joe became as popular as he is today. They met at an evangelism session. The moment the singer saw the beauty, he was instantly smitten by her good looks and he had the feeling that she was the woman he would marry.
Joe started a conversation with Selassie, and that struck a friendship between the two. Before too long, the friendship developed into a relationship that would lead to the altar. Unfortunately, there is no detail about how they got engaged.
Just a couple of months after he got married, Joe revealed that he was still receiving proposals from different women interested in him. He stated that it was possible he was attracting such interest from the opposite sex because he is a ladies’ man.
The Couple Had Their Wedding In 2020
Having dated for a while, Joe Mettle and Selassie Dzisa exchanged their vows in 2020. It all began with a traditional wedding held in Accra on August 13, 2020.
Before the traditional wedding, there were speculations that Joe was in a relationship with Ghanaian media personality, Berla Mundi and the two might probably end up together. The traditional ceremony marked an end to the speculations. More so, Mundi wished him the best in his married life, suggesting that there was no bad blood between the once alleged lovers.
The colorful wedding of the 2017 VGMA Artiste of the Year was graced by many well-meaning celebrities including Ghanaian actors Majid Michael, Timothy Bentum, gospel musician Ceccy Tsum, and Daughters of Glorious Jesus among others.
What beat the traditional wedding for the Bo Noo Ni singer and his beautiful bride was their white wedding which held only two days after at the Christian Centre Assemblies of God Church in Tema, Community 12. The reception followed after the exchange of vows at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
Even though Selassie was dressed in a traditional white wedding gown, her groom chose to ditch a suit for a simple, yet beautifully designed, kaftan wear. The couple tried to keep the event simple, but it wasn’t so much as so many stars turned up for the event which was also covered by the media and well followed on social media. The stars that graced the wedding ceremony included SP Kofi Sarpong, Ohemaa Mercy, Eugene Zuta, Abena Ruthy Celestine Donkor, and Ceccy Twum.
There Were Rumors That Selassie Was Previously Married
Joe has managed to keep his love life privately and so when the news broke out that he was getting married, the social media went abuzz. Soon afterward, Instagram blogger Aba The Great made an allegation that the singer was initially not planning to marry Selassie but he was forced to do that because he impregnated her. The rumor became even more serious when she appeared in a video with what some believed to be a baby bump.
The blogger claimed that when it was discovered that she took in, her family and church elders agreed that the singer should marry her so as to avoid bringing any shame to them.
She also claimed that this was not Selassie’s first pregnancy as she had given birth to two children in her previous relationships. The blogger claimed that she kept that away from Joe Mettle until after they tied the knot.
However, Selassie did not come out to deny the claims until after her marriage. She took to her social media to counter all the allegations leveled against her. She did not hesitate to take shots at those she perceived to be trying to bring her marriage down.
On his part, the award-winning musician made it clear that the rumor was completely false; he did not marry his wife because he was forced to do so, or even because she was pregnant. He added that the entire sorry was just another lie concocted from nowhere.
Selassie Dzisa Is A Daughter Of A Pastor
Selassie Dzisa was not a name known in the public domain until the beautiful woman was first linked to the famous gospel singer. She was born Salomey Selassie Dzisa on 20th April, although her actual date of birth is not known. There are speculations, however, that she might likely be in her late 20s or early 30s.
She was born in the Volta Region of Ghana, which is also where she was believed to be brought up as an Assemblies of God pastor’s daughter. It is thanks to this that Selassie is an active member of the church where she also sings, although she has not made any mark on the professional level. More to that, she is a member of a Christian sisterhood networking group known as Soul Sisters Network.
Selassie lived in Tema where she also worked as a Hairstylist and Make-Up Artist, also selling wigs and other beauty products. The beautician lived there until she walked down the aisle.
She Has Been Featured In His Music Video
After the marriage between Joe Mettle and Selassie Dzisa, the gospel singer chronicled the event with a music video of his song, Yesu Mo under the name Joe+Selasie Mettle.
The emotional video which he shared on his social media handles as well as on YouTube is a song of thanksgiving to God for his blessings. A re-shot of one of his favorite songs, the video features his bride, her father bringing her into the church, and other family members as well as events during the wedding ceremony.
The original song was also released in 2020, and an accompanying official video was shot and released in July 2020, only a month before his wedding. For now, it remains to be seen if she will get featured in more of his music videos or if she will even get her voice on some of his songs.
