Kelsey Wingert is a Texan, born to Betsy and Greg Wingert on June 20, 1992. Though she hails from Sugar Land, Wingert has lived in different cities including Florida, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Atlanta. Kelsey began exhibiting interests in sports and journalism from an early age and thus was already sure of her career path even before high school.
Her academic records show she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 2010 and then proceeded to study broadcast journalism with a minor in sports at Louisiana State University (LSU). Both in high school and as an undergraduate at LSU, Kelsey Wingert was an active student and began practicing her career within the campus. She not only led the public relations team for her Delta Zeta Sorority but also was an LSU campus correspondent for ESPNU.
Career Journey
The young and charismatic reporter’s first job was not in broadcasting. As a student, she took up some part-time jobs in local businesses to help support her finances while still keeping her eyes on the goal of becoming a sports journalist. After gathering some experience in school, she debuted as a broadcaster while still in college. Kelsey landed a job as a sports and statistics reporter for Tiger TV.
She had a brief two-year stint with the LSU-based media outlet before relocating back to her hometown. While in Texas, she worked as a sports intern for a Houston-based NBC affiliate station KPRC-TV. Her next job was as an assistant for SEC network and then ESPN. After college, Wingert moved to Alexandria, Louisiana where she landed a job as a sideline reporter for CST and later as a sports director /news anchor for KALB-TV.
Kelsey Wingert later moved to sports town Atlanta and currently works as a host and field reporter for FOX Sports Southeast and FOX Sports South. She joined the network in 2015 and by the next year, she began covering the Atlanta Braves during the Major League Baseball (MLB) season. A valuable asset to her employees, Wingert’s contract as a Braves reporter was renewed in 2018 and extended for two more years.
Kelsey Wingert’s 2018 Stadium Accident
Kelsey Wingert suffered an eye injury in early 2018 while on duty covering a game between the Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. It was business as usual until a center fielder hit a foul ball that unexpectedly landed on Wingert’s face. Many were originally uncertain of how badly affected the reporter was, but it was later disclosed via social media that the ball hit Wingert in the eye and she was taken to the hospital.
A CAT scan revealed that Kelsey fractured her eye socket and had to take some time off work to recover from the injury. Before the accident, Wingert was known to often wear glasses on air and it is uncertain if the ball affected her eyesight. However, fans hope she recovers fully and eagerly await her comeback to the field.
