KMTC Nursing Requirements and Fee Structure

The Kenya Medical Training College is a licensed health body under the Ministry of Medical Services. It is responsible for ensuring that the country’s health sector is at its best by training practitioners in Different fields to service the medical needs of the country. With its excellent work over the years, KMTC has become notable as one of the best and largest Medical training institutions in Central and East Africa.

The school is run by a highly qualified administrative staff with many years of experience and offers well over 70 medical courses. International and local students who also wish to be trained as nursing personnel are admitted into the institution provided they meet the KMTC nursing requirements and can fund their fees.

History of Kenya Medical Training College

Kenya Medical Training College was established in 1927 with the principal aim of training professionals in the medical field. Over time, it has recorded vast success in training professionals in the medical field. The school which started with four students, has over time recorded vast success in number of professional it has trained so far. It is on record that KMTC offers over 83 medical courses with a network of over 51,000 students.

Years after it was founded, the school was upgraded from PC 2 to PC 4A, making room for research and giving it a place among other research institutions. its main campus is located in Nairobi, at old Mbagathi Road Just Opposite Kenyatta National Hospital. Currently, KMTC has over 71 fully functional campuses in Kenya. The inflow of international students tells more about the excellent standard of the institution.

KMTC Offers Degree In Nursing

KMTC Nursing

The University of Nairobi senate committee made it possible for the Kenya Medical Training College to offer a degree in nursing by approving the collaboration between the university and the college. This collaboration provided a good ground for students with diplomas to further upgrade themselves to degrees in nursing to better even the play field.

Requirements for Admission into KMTC Nursing Program

The candidate is expected to have a minimum of a grade of C- and must have passed other science-related subjects in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education before applying for the KMTC nursing program.

List of Documents to be Presented By Normal Students

This category is for students who have completed their secondary education within Kenya and obtained the Kenya Certificate Of Secondary Education. The following documents are to be presented by such students for the KMTC nursing program:

  • A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum of C- in cluster subjects bearing the same name as other documents. Diploma students should have a minimum of C in cluster subjects, while a student enrolling for upgrading courses must have gotten a diploma.
  • A birth certificate or any other document that proves the prospective student’s age.
  • A National Identity Card.
  • Transcript for Higher Diploma Students from their previous Institution.

List of Documents to be Presented By by International KMTC Nursing Students

This category refers to international students who did not complete their secondary education in Kenya and don’t have a KCSE. The documents to be submitted by this category of students are:

  • Secondary school certificate that is recognized by the Kenya National Examination Council and Kenya Medical Training College.
  • International Passport.
  • Birth Certificate.

KMTC Fees For Nursing

KMTC has made proper provisions for existing and prospective students of nursing to find out how much the have to pay and the various ways to make the payments.

  • For those visiting the site for the first time, click on create account or enter your username and password if you have an account already.
  • Click on the fees option.
  • Select statement of fees to get a rundown of the total amount to pay.
  • If you wish to carry on with the payment at once, click on the pay fees option.
  • Follow the prompt to pay the fees to the provided bank.

The institution also has a categorised tuition fee structure classified into the three types of students as explained below.

The Regular KMTC Nursing Students

This category of students enjoys a drastic subsidized tuition fee at almost 85% off compared to the regular tuition fee of the institution. This means that they get to pay only Kshs 15,000 per Semester. However, they will have to pay other dues besides the tuition. These are explained below.

Self-Sponsored Students

This category of students are also offered a reduced tuition fee but not to compare with that of the regular students. The self-sponsored students are to pay a tuition fee of Kshs 35,000 per Semester alongside other fees and levies.

Foreign KMTC Nursing Students

This category of students have no subsidized tuition fee on the grounds that they have come to benefit from the high standard medical training the institution has to offer and as such will have to pay the full tuition fee. Fees are paid annually, and KMTC will not hesitate to dismiss students who refuse to pay the fees. In a case of misconduct, KMTC will not refund any fee to a dismissed student that has already paid the fees.

It is noteworthy that the above fee schedule is subject to change by the Kenya Medical Training College. Feeding charges are to be determined by the campus that the students are in, and they are to provide the account number they are to pay the fees.

Other Charges Paid By The KMTC Nursing Students

Accommodation 

Accommodation fee is paid on every Semester, and it is a general fee for all student that wishes to make use of the provided accommodation. It is of two categories:

  • The room students will have to share costs KShs 30,000 per Semester. It is a standard hostel room for students.
  • A private room for students who wish to be alone in a room costs Kshs 50,000 per Semester.

For the student that doesn’t want to make use of the accommodation provided by the school, they are expected to get housing that is close to the school premises.

Practical Attachments

Students who are in the medical field carry out practicals from time to time. In practical attachment, students are fixed into the actual area they specialize in for assessment which familiarizes them with the trend in the real world. KMTC nursing students are usually sent to hospitals, clinics, and many other functioning health systems to bear any cost that may arise.

Research

With the Kenya Medical Training College, research is inevitable as students usually carry out various investigations from time to time. The students see to the costs associated with experiments in the KMTC nursing departments.
