Kristen Van Dyke is the first child of her parents. She was born and grew up in South Carolina with her two younger siblings (Katie and Scott). Kristen grew up fascinated with the weather. She witnessed when hurricane Hugo blew through her hometown and was in awe. She reports how devastating the experience was as much of the area got severely affected. As a result of that terrible experience, she decided to learn the science behind it.
With her love and appreciation for nature at heart, Kristen attended the College of Charleston, South Carolina in the year 2000. An old but very prestigious school graduating in the year 2005 with a coveted Bachelor’s degree from the Communication and Media studies department.
Kristen Van Dyke never lost sight of her initial goal which was to learn the science behind the weather. She went ahead to earn herself a certificate in meteorology at Mississippi State University graduating in the year 2009. She is also a member of the American Meteorological Society, with her Seal of Approval awarded in the year 2008.
Kristen from a tender age knew what she wanted out of life and went all out to get it. She knew it won’t be enough to be a meteorologist without the requisite skills to present her findings professionally. Hence, she studied communication before earning her degree in geoscience.

Kristen Van Dyke’s Career Profile
Kristen Van Dyke started forecasting at WPDE, a local news station at her home state in South Carolina. At the time, she covered and reported numerous tropical storms and even Hurricane Ernesto in South Carolina and Florida.
The brilliant meteorologist was also one of the people that forecasted the deadly tornado outbreak which battered the South in March 2008. She worked at this station as a weekend meteorologist until September 2010 which was about a year after she finished from Mississippi.
Following a fruitful career in her home state, Kristen saw the need to venture out of her comfort zone. She got an opportunity and soon relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Not the type to be daunted by any challenge, she was to explore another aspect of her career. She became the host of the programme “New Mexico Style” that covered various local features and interesting lifestyle news which she presented for KASA Fox 2 and KRQE News 13.
The programme was a starting point and stepping stone for her as Kristen was later promoted to being the morning and noon meteorologist for the two stations. Kristen maintained this position for three years until April 2014. Soon after she left the station, Kristen Van Dyke moved again after getting an offer to become the chief meteorologist at KOIN 6 an affiliate of CBS in Portland. She worked in this capacity for three years before leaving the network in May 2017. Kristen gave family and personal reasons as her cause of leaving.
In the year 2017, Kristen joined the Fox 13 KSTU team as a chief meteorologist. A position she maintains till today. She says about her move to Utah that she has been enchanted by the terrains and mountains since she was a teenager. Kristen learned how to snowboard and ski in Utah and has spent lots of vacation there. She is happy to call Utah her home.

Kristen Van Dyke is 5 feet 3 inches tall. Although she is not very tall, she has managed to tower over some pretty giant challenges. The exceptional meteorologist was once diagnosed as having melanoma ( a highly malignant skin tumor) in the early stage. She was able to treat and overcome it due to the early diagnosis.
