Groove Awards is a Kenyan annual Gospel awards of which the winners are usually chosen by the public. The awards often referred to as Kenyan Ceremony of the Year is an avenue for determining the top talents in Kenyan Gospel music industry.

The 12th edition of the annual awards show was hosted on the 1st of June 2017 in collaboration with Safaricom. The high profile red carpet gala was held at the prestigious Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi, Kenya..

Usually, award shows are known for the red carpet’s glitz and glamour with loads of talented artistes and celebrities stepping on with the best outfits and accessories for the night, and this is not a taboo when it comes to a gospel awards event. Apart from donning attractive and dapper outfit, the paparazzi also have a filled day taking pictures of the celebs while they strike good poses worthy of runway models.

As with previous years where only the best of the best Kenyan Gospel music talents were honoured at the Groove Awards, the 2017 awards gala was a star-studded ceremony that saw a number of gifted artists walk home with accolades. But for some, like Willy Paul and Dj Sadic? Well, the ceremony saw not only the lucky winners, but also the highly talented artistes of 2014 receive their Awards, thanking the presenters, their families, mentors, and colleagues for their deep support which helped in making them succeed where others failed.

This year’s Groove Awards winners and nominees have added to more than 1,200 artistes/groups who have been nominated so far and also 270 Gospel musicians who have received Groove statuettes in Kenya and the East African region at large.

Verdict On The Groove Award Night

The 2017 Groove awards show was nothing short of awesome; it was very well planned. One might even think that the event was largely handled by foreign experts but to our greatest surprise, it was all Kenyan talents who made it a success. It had the ambience of an international event with great organisation. The concerts were lit and guests had so much of a good time as they were kept cheerful with vibrant and soul lifting performances from talented gospel acts billed for the night.

As with all award shows, some win big while some others lose out. Nevertheless, a good number of enthusiasts were pretty satisfied with the recipients of the awards. We say very big congratulations to all the winners whose hard work were rewarded. For those who missed out, we say more power and better luck next time.
