MAMA 2016

The 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA 2016) is going to hold on Saturday, October 22, 2016, in Johannesburg. MAMA 2016 is an initiative of Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa and MTV Base (DStv channel 322).

It is an annual celebration of the “gold standard” in music, creativity, and achievement. This year’s slot will mark the sixth edition and will be the third time that South Africa is hosting the show.

MAMA 2016

MAMA 2016 will recognize musicians and achievers who have made the most impact on African music and youth culture over the previous year. This year, the organizers have set apart 17 award categories including; Best Male, Best Female, Best Song and Best Collaboration by Absolut, Best Lusophone and Best Francophone categories, additional categories like the Africa Re-Imagined Award and Personality of the Year are also up for grabs.

Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks Africa said;

The MTV Africa Music Awards 2016 will broadcast live on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130) on Saturday 22 October at 2000 WAT/21:00 CAT.

Big winners on the night of the 2015 edition included Nigerian stars Yemi Alade and Davido, who took home the Best Male and Best Female awards respectively. South African hip hop star Cassper Nyovest nabbed the Best Hip Hop award while Nigeria’s D’Banj was honored with the MAMA Evolution award.

Nominations for this year’s awards will be revealed in September 2016.
