The 64 year old who earns about £6.4 million ($9.3 million) per annum was popularly for his unconventional and rigid managerial skills. His style was described as too methodical (boring), strangely harsh and unbearable. Wikipedia calls him “one of the most decorated managers in world football.”

“Before his career as a coach, Van Gaal played as a midfielder for Royal Antwerp, Telstar, Sparta Rotterdam, Ajax and AZ. He is also a fully qualified physical education teacher and has worked as such at high schools during various stages of his career as a semi-professional footballer.”

Louis Van Gaal, led the Manchester United team to the FA Cup, beating Crystal Palace to a 2-1 score. However it appeared the manager has been in somewhat feudal relations with his team players.

Louis van Gaal

In 2014, Louis replaced Scottish David Moyes, who was also dismissed for not taking the team to the Champions League during the 2013/14 season. In the past he has served as managers to Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach. He has also worked with the Netherlands national team.

His training timing and pattern during the club’s summer tour of the United States was reported to have left the players “shattered and ill-prepared.” It is believed that Louis dampens the confidence of his players by his harsh and perhaps insensitive critiques. He was also accused for giving glaring preferential treatments to the German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Generally speaking his time as United’s boss has been unpopular and criticized by players and fans alike. Regarding his anticipated departure, slighted Louis van Gaal said this after the FA Cup win.

“I show you the cup and I don’t discuss it (my future) with my friends of the media, who already sacked me for six months. Which manager can do what I have done?”

53-year old Jose Mourinho’s appointment will be confirmed later in the week. The former Chelsea manager was sacked last year in December. Mourinho who has been silent all the way is one of the game’s most successful soccer coaches in the world.
