Mary Blackshear Sessions – Bio
Mary Blackshear Sessions was born in the year 1946 in Gadsden, Alabama. There are not many details about her family background or early childhood. The most that has been disclosed is that she completed her elementary and high school education in Gadsden before proceeding to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama for further studies. While in college, Sessions was a very active student and joined several organisations such as The International Club, Huntingdon Christian Council as well as The Social Standards Board.
She was also a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and years after graduation, remained a proud ambassador of her alma mater. Her husband, Jeff Sessions is equally a native of Alabama. He is from Selma and was born on the 24th of December 1946. His father’s name was Jefferson Sessions Jr. while his mother’s name was Abbie Powe. Jeff Sessions attended Wilcox County High School as well as Huntington College where he obtained his pre-law degree. He thereafter studied law at the University of Alabama School of Law and graduated in 1973
Mary Blackshear Sessions is a career teacher. Her passion for inculcating knowledge in young minds led her to teach at schools in various parts of Alabama such as Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. On the other hand, her husband is an astute attorney as well as a career public servant. Upon qualifying as a lawyer, Jeff Sessions practiced law privately before joining the office of the US Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama in 1975. He spent six years as an assistant attorney in the office before then-President Reagan made him the US Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Jeff Sessions joined politics in 1997 when he was elected to the Senate. He remained in the Senate for 20 years having been re-elected in 2002, 2008 and 2014. In February 2017, Sessions resigned from his position as senator to become Attorney-General of the United States.
