For people who have lived most of their lives in front of their fans and media, it is only natural that people assume they have a say in Sonya and Percy’s family breakdown. The couple didn’t help matters as they publicly lashed out at each other.

According to Sonya C, she got tired of his incessant cheating and him running the streets while she stayed at home raising her seven kids and holding things down. She felt she could no longer cope and decided they should go their separate ways in 2010, even though she didn’t file for divorce until 3 years later. The split was quite messy, and Sonya was the worst hit due to the allegations her husband raised against her.

On Master P’s part, he had some grievances which he made known. He claimed that Sonya was abusing illegal drugs, influencing their kids negatively. On the other hand, Sonya refuted the claim saying that she never did any form of drugs in front of her kids and that he never had much interest in them until she filed for divorce, and he is suddenly trying to take them from her.

One of the major things that really caused an uproar in the media was the amount of money Sonya requested in the settlement. She demanded about $67 million, roughly forty percent of her husband’s net worth. She was tagged as a gold digger, crackhead, and an unfit mother, but she stood her ground that she has been with him for more than two decades and contributed massively to the amalgamation of that wealth. The case was messy and in court for several years as it seemed there would be no common ground.

Master P later stated that they opted for an out-of-court settlement and that the divorce has been concluded. In 2015, it was later reported that the court ruled that Master P must pay around $27,000 monthly through child and spousal support. Sonya was also given the exclusive right to reside in their Calabasas residence. In May 2022, Master P submitted some documents to the court, and he was declared legally single.

Sonya C and Master P Have Seven Kids Together

According to Sonya, she had to raise her seven children all by herself. She claims that even though she can’t refer to her ex-husband as an absent father, the children never really felt his presence. So she did all she could to be there for their children.

One of the reasons why she was so angry with her ex-husband was because he never really showed much interest in the kids but wanted to take them from her to hurt her feelings. Asides from their 7 children, Master P had 1 child outside of their marriage and also raised his brother’s child, Veno, after his brother was killed in a robbery in 1990. Sonya had to mother these children alongside her own 7.

Sonya was somehow vindicated after she was granted the custody of their four youngest children after he failed to appear in court for their custody hearing in 2014. He was ordered to pay her legal bill of $75,000, amongst other things.
