High4 was a South Korean boy group formed by N.A.P Entertainment in 2014 that consisted of four members. The group debuted as a quartet with the single, ‘Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms’ featuring IU on 8th April 2014.

The song which was written by the famous South Korean singer, songwriter and actress IU was a super hit as it peaked at No. 1 on the Melon streaming site and No. 1 on the Gaon Music Chart. The song also won the 11th May 2014 SBS music program, Inkigayo as well as hitting the chart every spring even though it was released a long time ago.

Hugh4’s quartet lineup consists of Sunggu, Alex, Myunghan, and Youngjun. After the departure of their leader, Sunggu on 31st January 2017, the group continued to promote as a three-member band before they officially disbanded on 16th August 2017.

Alex is the professional name of South Korean singer Alexander Kim who is well known as the former lead rapper and main dancer of the High4 boy group. He was born on 7th September 1990 in New York, United States of America. But even though he was born in America, Alex officially obtained Korean citizenship at the age of 22 with its compulsory duty to serve in the military. He stated that even though he could keep his American citizenship and work in Korea with a visa, he decided to become a Korean citizen in order to achieve his dreams of living in Korea and to portray the beauty of the country to the world as a Korean superstar. Interestingly, Alex enlisted in the Korean army in March 2018.

Alex, who named himself the laziest High4 member, can speak English, Korean and Japanese fluently. Prior to becoming a member of the group, he studied art for ten years. He loves to paint and also loves to play basketball and tennis. He is a close friend of 24K boy group leader, Cory and Day6 member, Jae.

Myunghan is the stage name of the South Korean singer who serves as the main songster of High4. He was born as Baek Myunghan on 15th February 1993 in Daegu, South Korea.

The young boy became passionate about singing after joining a singing club while in high school. He enrolled as a N.A.P Entertainment trainee after auditioning for the famed Korean music program, K-Pop Star. He featured in C-REAL’s ‘Sorry But I’ music video.

Among High4 members, Myunghan was the least in size as he stands at the height of 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m) and has a body mass of 52 kg (114 lbs).

Yim Youngjun, professionally known as Youngjun, is a South Korean music artist who is popularly known as the former rapper, youngest member, and visual of the boy group, High4.

Born on 24th August 1995 Youngjun initially joined N.A.P Entertainment as an actor but later switched to become a High4 member. Among the group’s members, he is the best looking, a fact that his other bandmates have attested to.

Youngjun participated in the South Korean survival reality show, MIXNINE which aired on JTBC under a new agency named Eleven9 Entertainment but was eliminated in episode 10. Furthermore, he joined the army for his two years of mandatory military service in February 2019.

Despite being the youngest member of High4, the rapper was the tallest among them as he stands at the notable height of 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) and weighs about 56 kg (123 lbs).

Why Did They Get Disbanded?

High4’s agency, N.A.P Entertainment, announced on the 13th of February 2017 that the leader of the band Sunggu will be leaving the group after partaking in the group’s Japanese activities in March, just three years after debuting with the group.

While the group was supposed to carry on as a three-member band, it was later announced that they would be disbanding generally. This was made known to the public on the 16th of August 2017 when High4 member Alex made it known to his followers through Instagram Live. Although their reason for disbandment has not been stated as the agency didn’t release any official statement about it, the members are now focusing on their solo careers with two on mandatory military service.

During their run, High4 enjoyed a successful career as they released two Korean-language Extended Plays; ‘Hi High’ and ‘Blessed’, and another two Japanese-language Extended Plays; ‘High Five’ and ‘Hi Summer’ with one single album titled, ‘HookGA as High4:20’.
