MXM is a musical duo from South Korea who is signed to an exclusive contract to rapper Rhymer’s hip hop company, Brand New Music. Following their debut in 2017, the group has released two extended plays and one full-length album. MXM has also gained nominations at the Gaon Chart Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Melon Music Awards and Seoul Music Awards. Who are The Members of MXM?
The musical duo is made up of two former trainees of the music agency, Brand New Music. They are rapper Lim Young-min and vocalist Kim Dong-hyun.
Lim is a rap artist who was born in Busan, South Korea on December 25, 1995. He is also a singer who has been associated with another musical group called YDPP. In 2018, he contributed to the release of Starship Entertainment’s YDPP’s song, ‘Love It Live It’ alongside fellow MXM member, Kim. He might also be better known to some people as a contestant of the reality TV series, Produce 101: Season Two.
Lim Young-min has also featured in other TV shows like Photo People Season 2 and BRANDNEWBOYS. He reportedly trained for a year and two months as a JYP trainee before joining Brand New Music. He specializes in writing rap lyrics and also playing the piano. In regards to his physical attributes, the rapper is quite tall as he stands at a height of 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) and has an accumulated body mass of 66 kg (145 lbs).
The other MXM member, Kim Dong-hyun, was born on the 17th of September 1998. He has a twin brother and an older sister. Kim has a passion for composing songs and also playing the guitar. He was credited with the writing of the lyrics of their two-track promotional single, ‘Good Day” alongside Lim. He also assisted the Brand New Music producer in the arrangement and production of the song.
Just like Lim, Kim Dong-hyun is speculated to be a former trainee of the South Korean multinational Entertainment Corporation, JYP Entertainment established by J. Y. Park in 1997. Concerning his body measurements, he stands at a height of 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) and has a body mass of 63 kg (138 lbs).
Lim and Kim met while they were being trained at Brand New Music. They also served as the representative of their agency in the 2017 boy group survival reality show, Produce 101: Season Two. The boys failed to take home the grand prize as Kim was eliminated from the series before the finale while Lim was only able to manage a 15th overall finish. Prior to participating in the reality series, the duo had already started working on their debut as a project unit, prompting them to sign a deal with Brand New Music. They moved on to release the aforementioned two-track promotional single in July 2012 before finally unveiling the group’s name as MXM in September 2017.
What Does Their Name Stand For?
It is reported that MXM Stands for both ‘Mix and Match’ and ‘More x More’ which has its varying definitions. The former reflects on the compatibility of Lim and Kim as a group, while the latter talks about their resoluteness to grow as a musical group. Having debuted as a group in 2017 with the release of their first extended play, ‘Unmix’, Lim Young-min and Kim Dong-hyun have advanced in their music careers as they have dropped many singles and as well as another extended play.
The Unmix EP comprises of seven tracks which include their hit single, ‘I’m the One’. Other tracks include “Just Come Out”, “Save the Rest”, “Being Objective”, “Good Day”, “I Just Do”, and “I’m the One (Inst.)”. In January 2018, the duo released another extended play, “Match Up” which contains six singles – “Lips”, “Rush on”, “Diamond Girl (Inst.)”, “Perfectly Perfect”, “Errday”, and “Diamond Girl” which became their smash single.
A few months after the second EP, MXM dropped their debut full-length album, ‘More Than Ever’, which was backed with the hit single, “Ya Ya Ya”. They also moved on to release two more hit singles in November 2018 titled, “Knock Knock” and “You Look So Different”. The duo went on a musical concert tour in 2017 as they participated in the annual musical concert organized by Brand New Music called Brand New World Tour Seoul. Their first concert as a group was titled More Than Ever in September 2018.
In 2019, it was announced that Lim and Kim would become members of AB6IX, a five-member South Korean boy group formed by Brand New Music.
