If you have been anywhere close to the news in the past two years, the name Michael Cohen should certainly ring a few bells. He is the former close associate and personal lawyer of U.S. President Donald Trump who admitted to having committed a few crimes that include tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations, on behalf of his former employer.

Who is Michael Cohen?
The American lawyer is a native of Long Island, New York, United States. He was born into the Jewish family of Maurice and Sondra Cohen on 25th August 1966. Interestingly, Michael Cohen comes from the lineage of professional health workers as his father worked as a Surgeon and his mother was a nurse. His uncle was also a famous doctor who treated members of the Lucchese crime family.
Cohen grew up in the city of Lawrence, where he completed his basic education at Lawrence Woodmere Academy. He then attended the American University where he acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988 before attaining a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
After graduating, Cohen kicked off his career as a personal injury lawyer, working for Melvyn Estrin before finally launching into his own private practice. During that time, he also joined his family to run their taxi-cab business, which operated in New York and Chicago. He later moved to enter the real estate business, operating solely in the New York market.
In 2003, Michael Cohen contested for the New York City Council position from the fourth district as a Republican. Unfortunately, he was defeated by Eva S. Moskowitz. He then followed it up by briefly campaigning for a seat in the New York State Senate in 2010. Prior to the campaign, however, he had joined The Trump Organization in 2006.
Cohen grew to be a huge fan of Trump and has persuaded his parents and business associates to own condominiums in Trump World Tower. This endeared him to Trump to a great length as the real estate billionaire made him the chief operating officer of Affliction entertainment, a mixed martial arts promotion company of which Trump was a significant stakeholder.
A few years down the line, Cohen who was now Trump’s personal lawyer, put his loyalty and ferocity into play in 2016 as he arranged for the payment of $130,000 to Stormy Daniels; the lady who claimed to have a sexual relationship with Trump 10 years ago. Almost soon after, he negotiated another payout to Karen McDougal; a former Playboy model who also claimed that she had a love affair with Trump. This stimulated a negative vibe from the public and earned him a bad reputation.
Two years later, the FBI invaded Michael Cohen’s home and offices in search of evidence for the eight criminal charges leveled against him. Later in August 2018, he pleaded guilty to the charges. Consequently, he was handed a sentence of three years in federal prison and was mandated to pay a definite fine of about $50,000.
Family Life – Wife and Daughter
Michael Cohen is a married man and his wife is Laura Shusterman, a Ukrainian-born American. According to Trump’s biographer, Mrs. Cohen’s father, Fima Shusterman, was who introduced her husband to the 45th US President.
Cohen and Shusterman solemnized their union in 1994 and have welcomed two children; a daughter named Samantha Blake Cohen and a son named Jake Cohen. Samantha is a model who completed her higher education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2018 while Jake is still an undergraduate of the University of Miami.
As a successful entrepreneur and lawyer, Michael Cohen has earned himself a luxury lifestyle, although he has been accustomed to such a lifestyle from a young age as he owned a Porsche while still in college. Since then, he has been able to add a Bentley to his multimillion-dollar car collection.
In regards to his net worth, Cohen was said to be worth around $1 million. That figure has, however, since diminished ever since he got himself embroiled in the political saga that will have him serve jail time.
