Daughter of welder Daniel Kerrigan and homemaker Brendan, Nancy Kerrigan was born on the 13th of October 1969 at Stoneham, Massachusetts. She has two elder brothers; Michael and Mark, who played hockey while Nancy took up figure-skating at age 6. With substantial coaching, she went ahead to win the ‘Boston open’ competition at age 9. This made her parents give her the utmost support by enrolling her for more classes on figure-skating even though they could hardly afford it at that time.

With the increased concentration on her skating career, Nancy did well to not slack in her academics. She attended Stoneham High School and Emmanuel College where she majored in Business. Still intent on her skating career, Kerrigan trained under Theresa Martin until she was 16. With an eventual victory in the U.S figure-skating championship in 1993, the cloud got a bit gloomy for Nancy Kerrigan as she was attacked with a police baton in the first month of 1994 by the ex-husband to her fellow competitor Tonya Harding. This left her with injuries and made her withdraw from the U.S championship for that year. However, she had an early recovery that made her partake in the Winter Olympics for that year, 1994. To the amazement of everyone, she won a silver medal after which she hung her skates and resigned from amateur competition.

Since then, Nancy Kerrigan has taken part in a few other professional competitions such as the Ice wars. She got more involved in different skating shows, featured in films such as Blades of Glory (2017), partook in a dance show ‘Dancing with the stars’ as one of its contestants but was eliminated in the seventh week of the competition.
