American actor and former figure-skating champion, Nancy Kerrigan has consistently been in the limelight over the years. Daughter of welder Daniel Kerrigan and homemaker Brendan, Nancy Kerrigan was born on the 13th of October 1969 at Stoneham, Massachusetts. She has two elder brothers; Michael and Mark, who played hockey while Nancy took up figure-skating at age 6. With substantial coaching, she went ahead to win the ‘Boston open’ competition at age 9. This made her parents give her the utmost support by enrolling her for more classes on figure-skating even though they could hardly afford it at that time.
With the increased concentration on her skating career, Nancy did well to not slack in her academics. She attended Stoneham High School and Emmanuel College where she majored in Business. Still intent on her skating career, Kerrigan trained under Theresa Martin until she was 16. She also had the good fortune of briefly staying with Denise Morrissey and being coached by Evy and Mary Scotvoid, two famous figure-skating coaches.
Coming fourth place at the junior category of the U.S figure-skating championship in 1987, Nancy Kerrigan continued to make herself relevant in the game of figure-skating. By 1991, she came third at the U.S figure skating championship and at this point, began to gain more relevance in the game. 1992 seemed like a breakthrough year for Nancy Kerrigan as she came second in the U.S figure-skating championship and also picked both bronze and silver medals at the Winter Olympics and world championship respectively.
With an eventual victory in the U.S figure-skating championship in 1993, the cloud got a bit gloomy for Nancy Kerrigan as she was attacked with a police baton in the first month of 1994 by the ex-husband to her fellow competitor Tonya Harding. This left her with injuries and made her withdraw from the U.S championship for that year. However, she had an early recovery that made her partake in the Winter Olympics for that year, 1994.
