Nas, nicknamed Nasty Nas or Nas Escobar is one of the renowned rappers in the music industry. No one can dispute the fact that his songs are heartwarming and his ability to control his breath while rapping is overwhelming. So far, he has created a stellar record all through his musical career, having released eight consecutive platinum, multi-platinum albums, selling over 30 million records worldwide.

The American rapper is said to have had a small beginning, he made his first appearance as an artist in the year 1991 on New York City-based American hip hop group, Main Source’s Live at the Barbeque. Nas was born as Nasir Olu Dara Jones to Olu Dara and Fannie Ann Jones on September 14, 1973, in Brooklyn. The different speculations about his origin all started with his father, Olu Dara who was originally named Charles Jones III at birth but later adopted the name ‘Olu Dara’ after he moved to New York City in 1963. The name which means God is Good is linked to the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria.

Afterwards, a test carried out on him showed that his African DNA indicates that he has roots linked with high Yoruba populated countries including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana and the rest of them.

What Was Nas’ Relationship With Nicki Minaj?

Apart from gaining popularity through his career and the true identity of his origin, his personal affairs have also geared him to fame. He was once married to Kelis Rogers who is a popular American chef and recently, he has hit the headlines again because of his relationship with the renowned rapper, Nicki Minaj.

The gist about Nas and Nicki started way back in 2012 after that, they were said to have been in a relationship for seven months which later hit the rocks. Before then, pictures that showed the duo in all kinds of PDA hit the internet that year, however, their relationship was neither defined nor confirmed.

Later on, it was discovered that Nicki was in a relationship with Meek Mill. This went on until 2017 when she announced that she broke up with him because she was losing focus at work. Not long after her announcement, she posted a picture of herself and Nas cuddling at a dinner. At this point, fans wanted to know if they are back together.

Subsequently, in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Nicki later confirmed that she had sleepovers with Nas but also had plans of going celibate for the rest of the year. However, she added that she may go into a relationship with the American rapper.

However, there has been no confirmations about their togetherness but they continued with their platonic relationship. A video coverage taken on Nas’ 44th birthday showed how intimate they have taken their relationship, they were holding hands and showing off major PDA.

While a lot of their fans were trying to digest the contents of the pictures, they received a video upload showing the two locking lips. A few months later, it was rumored that Nicki was with Nas’s child, however, the news turned out to be a hoax.

After much ado, the two split, following seven months of dating. Stories have it that they called off their relationship because of distance while a few others have been asking if there was a relationship in the first place.

Unarguably, Nas makes a fortune from his career as a rapper and also gets extra income as an entrepreneur. He has sold over 30 million records and founded his own record label known as Mass Appeal Records. Apart from all these, he works as an associate publisher of Mass Appeal Magazine and also has a Fila Store.
