Everyone loves a good grass-to-grace story and one that would certainly warm your heart right up is that of Niykee Heaton. A young talented singer, songwriter, model, and record producer, Niykee has become one of the most exciting newbies on the music scene. She has dropped several original songs including an EP titled Bad Intentions in 2014 as well as a mixtape The Bedroom Tour in 2015. She has also embarked on sold-out tours across America and is a force to be reckoned with on Instagram.
However, before all the fame and glory, Nikyee suffered through tough times as a child including a stuttering and speech impairment condition. They were also money problems at home and the only thing that gave her hope amidst all this was music.
Finding Solace in Music Amidst A Difficult Childhood
Niykee Heaton was born Nicolet Aleta Heaton on December 4, 1994, in Chicago, Illinois. Her mother, Veronica Heaton, is originally from South Africa while her father, Joel R. Heaton, is American. The singer previously had two siblings namely elder sister, Rachel Heaton, and a brother, Cheyne Heaton. Rachel sadly passed on in 2007 due to liver cancer complications.
She started her journey into the music industry at the tender age of 5; writing songs and learning instruments. By the time she turned 9, the little girl had already taught herself how to play the guitar and begged her mom to sign her up for some instrumental and vocal lessons. The family was however in difficult financial strains at that time and as such, the request was turned down. This saddened Niykee and the bleak situation was further compounded by watching her dad slump into drunkenness each night.
As if things couldn’t get bad enough, the young Niykee also developed a stutter and this made it hard to relate with her peers. She became the target of bullies and soon withdrew into her shell. Through this bleak period, the one thing that made Niykee happy was music. Her tastes moved from Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley to the Motown/Diana Ross and when she discovered rap music, starting with Lil Jon, she felt right at home.
Gaining YouTube Stardom with her Mind-Blowing Rap Covers
During her junior year of high school, Niykee Heaton created an account on YouTube where she uploaded clips recorded in the comfort of her bedroom. She initially recorded acoustic guitar covers of different genres of music and gained a few followers. Her fame, however, went through the roof when she decided to focus on posting covers of her favorite rap songs.
The young girl expertly covered songs from the likes of ASAP Rocky, Trinidad James, and Chief Keef and this brought her thousands of followers. Her December 2012 cover of Chief Keef’s song, Love Sosa, particularly went viral and attracted millions of views. It was featured on the WorldStarHipHop website and Chief Keef himself even publicized his admiration for Heaton’s version of his song.
Such a magnificent achievement announced Niykee Heaton to record labels who started making inquiries about her availability. She immediately hired a manager named Lauren and together, they recorded some impressive catalog of songs. In 2014, she signed a joint recording deal with All Def Digital and Capitol Records.
Niykee Heaton’s Debut EP and Headlining Tour
By September 23, 2014, Niykee Heaton dropped her debut EP titled Bad Intentions. It marked a remarkable outcome for her as it topped the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart. It also reached the top ten in the US iTunes store within 24 hours of its release. Capitalizing on the success of the EP, on the 13th of Jun 2015, Niykee launched a website titled NBK (Natural Born Killers) for independently releasing her songs following a fall-out with her Record label.
That same year, she dropped a debut music video of her song, titled Lullaby, on Apple Music before announcing her headlining concert tour, The Bedroom Tour, which began on November 12 and ended on December 18 of 2015. The tour was quite successful and saw the Illinois native sell out each of the 25 venues on her stop.
Building upon the success of The Bedroom Tour, Niykee Heaton released The Bedroom Tour mixtape on March 18, 2016. She subsequently embarked on her second Tour, titled The Centerfold Tour, which began on October 5, 2016, and ended on December 16, 2016, in the United States.
How Niykee Heaton Courts Controversy With Her Racy Instagram Posts
Part of what has fuelled Niykee Heaton’s fame is not just her music but also her substantial Instagram presence. The singer has an active Instagram account which she uses to share sultry photos of herself with her over two million followers. Such posts have brought her droves of admirers. It has also caught her some flak as people wonder whether she is a bonafide artist or just a thirst trap (a lady who posts pictures on the net just for the purpose of showing off her body).
These criticisms have not gone down well with Heaton and as such, she is leading the movement to change such close-minded outlook. According to her, the society we live in can’t seem to accept that someone can be beautiful as well as genuinely talented at the same time and they, therefore, force people to choose between the two. The singer herself however refuses to be forced to make such a choice and is instead determined to prove that someone can be intellectual as well as sexy at the same time.
Getting Married and Welcoming Her First Son
Niykee Heaton’s talent, as well as her stunning beauty, means that she is never short of admirers but we are sorry to burst their bubble as the singer is off the market. Heaton is happily married to fitness instructor, entrepreneur, and rising actor, Jeff Logan. The two lovebirds commenced their relationship around September 2018. They later got engaged and tied the knot on July 15, 2019. The ceremony was a simple outdoor event and featured the couple’s closest friends and families. The bride stunned in an elegant A-line dress while her groom turned up in white polo and slacks.
Heaton and her husband now have one son together, named Damien Mandela Logan, who was born in May 2020. Another cherished member of the family is Logan’s young son from his earlier marriage. Meanwhile, Logan is a native of New York and was born in April 1989. He excelled in football during his high school and college days at Ohio State University but couldn’t really break into the NFL. He therefore spent a few years in between jobs and piled on a lot of weight.
Motivated by the arrival of his son, Logan took to strenuous physical workouts and soon sculpted his body into a work of art. He now has his own thriving wellness and fitness company known as Become Nutrition. He has also featured in a handful of Hollywood productions including the UMC series, Double Cross, which debuted in 2020.
