The Orlando Tragedy Leaves 49 Dead And Over 50 Injured

International reports have confirmed the death of 49 people at a gay nightclub in Florida. It says the Orlando attack was carried out by an IS radicalized citizen identified as Omar Mateen.

The suspect, 29-year-old Omar Seddique Mateen was a US citizen from Port St Lucie, Florida. His parents were from Afghanistan. He was not on any terrorist list but the FBI says Omar had been interviewed twice in 2013-14 after he made “inflammatory remarks” to a colleague.

Statistics have it that America has the most increasing rate of gun violence in the world. Before now, Obama declared the high rate of gun violence in the U.S as a frustrated aspect of his administration.

It appears the American Congress have a lot to do in order to reduce the accessibility of guns in America. This is because it was discovered that Omar legally procured guns, few days before the attack. He also tried to buy body armor as well.

He went into Pulse nightclub and opened fire on people there. Then held the rest hostage. He was killed during a shoot out with 11 police men.

It is still being investigated if Omar Mateen was self radicalized or belonged to any terrorist group. However his father, Seddique Mir Mateen says the attack had nothing to do with their religion. Rather he says the attack might have been triggered by the sight of gay people who were publicly making out.

Seddique Mir Mateen also condemned his son’s actions, calling it “an act of terror”. The aggrieved father apologized for the tragedy.

“I am very sorry and mad”

Countering the suppositions of his father, Omar Mateen had earlier called the authorities pledging his allegiance to ISIS. He did this before unleashing terror on the victims at the club. Claiming responsibility for the attack, the terrorist group say that an IS member had carried out the attack.
