Age, Bio – Who Is Orlando Bloom?

He was born Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom on the 13th of January 1977 in Canterbury, England. Ironically, growing up for Orlando wasn’t very smooth. He was diagnosed as being dyslexic and his mother encouraged him to concentrate on his art and drama lessons. He began his schooling at St Peter’s Methodist Primary School before heading to the junior school of the King’s School. He then went to St Edmund’s School, Canterbury.

Orlando Bloom relocated to London to pursue a two-year A Level course in drama, photography, and sculpture in 1993, at the Fine Arts College in Hampstead. He then went ahead to join the National Youth Theatre where he spent 2 seasons and won himself a scholarship to learn at the British American Drama Academy. As he was learning and honing his craft, he began to pick up small roles on television.

His professional acting career began with some roles on TV, featuring as Noel Harrison in Casualty (1994-1996) and as Peter Drinkwater in Midsomer Murders (2000). His film debut was in 1997 where he featured alongside Stephen Fry in Wilde. Orlando then proceeded to study acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.

All his investments in his acting career did pay off as he landed his first major role and one of his biggest just 2 days after his graduation from Guildhall in 1999. He was cast to play Legolas in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy (2001-2003). He originally auditioned for a different part but the director – Peter Jackson saw and recognized some potentials in him and cast him as Legolas. This role signaled a major breakthrough in his acting career as he went ahead to feature in various blockbusters alongside established actors.

Some of his accolades include a place on the ’25 Hottest Stars Under 25′ in 2002. He was named ‘People’s hottest Hollywood bachelor in the tabloid’s 2004 list. In the same year, he was named the 12th most influential person in British culture by cultural experts. Moreover, in 2009, he was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has visited several villages and schools in Nepal to support their education and sanitation programs. In 2010, he was presented with an Honorary Degree by the University of Kent for his contributions to the film industry in his hometown at the Canterbury Cathedral. Orlando Bloom also received the BAFTA Britannia Humanitarian Award in 2015.

He was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 2nd of April 2014. Most of Orlando’s box office successes have been as a part of an ensemble cast. All the members of the Rings trilogy cast got nominated for Best Ensemble Acting at the Screen Actors Guild Awards consecutively from 2001-2003. They finally won the award in 2003 for the 3rd film – The Return of the King. He has gone ahead to win several awards like the Teen Choice Awards, Hollywood Festival Award, Empire Awards, European Film Awards, amongst several prestigious nominations.

Some of his remarkable works include as Will Turner in the various films of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End and Dead Men Tell no Tales (2003- 2015). he has also played roles in Ned Kelly (2003), Kingdom of Heaven, Elizabethtown (2005), Love and Other Disasters, The Armenian Genocide (2006), Everest: A Climb for Peace (2007), New York, I Love You (2009), The Good Doctor, The Three Musketeers (2011), Romeo and Juliet (2013), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), Digging for Fire (2015), Romans, S.M.A.R.T. Chase (2017), The Outpost (2019).

In 2007, he began to date Miranda Kerr – an Australian supermodel. They got married in 2010 and had their son – Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom, on the 6th of January 2011. They sadly announced their separation and divorced in 2013. Orlando is presently dating and engaged to popular musician – Katy Perry.
