Patti Hansen was spotted by her photographer neighbor, Peter Gert when she was 14 years of age. She later signed with Wilhelmina Models owned by the former model, Wilhelmina Cooper after Hansen attended Wilhelmina’s party in the company of Peter Gert. Before long, she relocated to Manhattan, joined the Professional Children’s School there (she later dropped out), and started landing modeling jobs.
During the course of her career as a model, the New York native has made numerous appearances on the pages and on the covers of many top-of-the-line magazines. After Patti Hansen put her modeling career to a halt in the early 1980s, the runway queen went into acting, gracing our screen on the sets of a few movies. A chance for the model to make her on-screen debut came in 1979 when she made an appearance in Judith Ross’ comedy film entitled Rich Kids where she breathed life into the character of Beverly. They All Laughed, the 1981 romantic comedy directed by Peter Bogdanovich featured her in the role of Sam (Deborah Wilson). Barely four years later in 1984, she joined the cast of Hard to Hold as Nicky Nides. Hard to Hold is a movie directed by Larry Peerce with the likes of Rick Springfield in the leading role.
So far, we have only seen Patti Hansen in the three aforementioned feature films. However, the New Yorker has appeared as herself in many documentaries, and TV series including Michael Kors: Fall/Winter 2019/2020 at NYFW, The Mike Douglas Show, and Casablancas: The Man Who Loved Women.
Patti Hansen Returned To Modeling In 1993
Having made her mark in the movie industry, Hansen had to make a u-turn in her career when the runway beckoned. It happened that veteran designer Calvin Klein needed to use the 1970s-era models for his 1993 collection and Hansen was one of the selected few.
The A-list model recorded a milestone in her career in 1999 when she was presented as one of the Modern Muses, gracing the November 1999 Millennium cover of American Vogue. Patti featured in adverts for Guerlain’s perfume Shalimar Light in 2004 and she appeared alongside her two daughters Theodora and Alexandra. She also starred in Net-a-Porter ad with Theodora. The runway queen graced the runway once again in February 2019 walking for Michael Kors for the designer’s Studio 54-inspired Fall 2019 collection.
Among other things, Patti Hansen launched a bag label named Hung on U. The label consists of cross-body bags that are in different sizes, colors, and skins (from rubber to suede). Their prices range from $30 to $400. Hansen penned down her autobiography entitled, Patti Hansen: A Portrait which was launched at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

Patti Hansen met Keith Richards during her 23rd birthday celebration at Studio 54 in 1979 when Richards bought her a bottle of champagne because Hansen’s friend, Shaun Casey entreated him to do so. They began dating after nine months during Richards’ 36th birthday and got engaged four years later in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The couple eventually tied the nuptials on the 18th Of December 1983.
Their union is blessed with two daughters, Theodora Richards (born 18th March 1985) and Alexandra Richards (born on 28th July 1986). From all indications, the Patti/Keith love is going as strong as ever. Patti has been battling with breast and bladder cancer for some time now.
