Presidency Rat Claims – After 104 days away for medical vacation in the UK, news from Nigeria says that the recuperating leader will be working from home for the next 3 months.
According to Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, this is because the furniture and the air conditioning in his office were supposedly damaged by rats in the President’s absence. He says the president would be working from home in order to afford the maintenance team time to fix the damaged furnishings.
Adding to that he says that President Buhari has a conducive work space in his residence.
“What is important is that the job gets done. Whether he does it from his bedroom or his sitting room or his anteroom; it does not matter. Let the job be done. And the job will be done.”
The instant reaction of most Nigerians was rather hilarious. Without an iota of confusion, it was glaring that the Nigerian government seems to have run out of credible excuses as it concerns the President’s health.
Of all the secrecy surrounding his health and leadership in diaspora, the rats claim takes the cake as the flimsiest of them all.
President Buhari returned to the country on Saturday. Judging from face value, it is no surprise that he definitely still needs medical supervision and it would have made most sense to admit to Nigerians that the president requires rest on doctor’s orders.
The rats claim has been listed as one of those times the Nigerian government thought it could play with the people’s intelligence.
On a serious note, blurting out a questionable excuse as this to the people and the international community is a cause to worry about the transparency of the Nigerian leadership. More so it says a lot about the value and worth of the governed in the west African country.
Till date Aso Rock has withheld what ailment the President suffers from.
On his first vacation, it was said that the President had to attend to an ear infection. Well meaning Nigerians suspected a foul play. With further trips back and forth the UK, Nigerians were certain that whatever the ailment was, was serious and far worse than an ear infection.
Before his return on Saturday, there was a “Return Or Resign” protest in the country.
Always at the defense of the President, Garba Shehu said there is no cause for alarm.
“There’s nothing at all to worry about as to the condition of his own health. From everything we have seen from the president – we have a new Buhari: energetic, well focused and it is clear he is enjoying excellent health.”
On the contrary, the people disagree. Echoing what every Nigerian already knows, The Coordinator of the group, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said:
“Looking at the President, it is obvious that he is not sound; he is not healthy, but in an attempt to paint a different picture, they come up with all kinds of lies.
“The Buhari administration is struggling with truth, integrity and transparency. It raised Nigerians expectations in terms of its character and value, but it is now a challenge for them to live up to that expectation. The tragedy of that is the kind of lies they are churning out; it is ridiculous and an embarrassment to this nation.”
