If you are a fan of movies but have never heard of Quentin Tarantino, he is a filmmaker and actor that has been the brains behind some of your favorite movies. He has written, produced, and directed some of the best movies ever released in Hollywood such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight.
Tarantino’s movies have gained quick popularity for their unique style that includes long scenes of dialogue, music from the 1960s and 1970s, the romanticism of violence, and nonlinear storylines. Being one of the most popular filmmakers in Hollywood, his works have been followed as much as it has been scrutinized, with people wondering what made him a remarkable filmmaker as they sought to know if the claims about his retirement are true.
The Filmmaker Said He Would Retire After Directing His Tenth Film
Unofficially, Quentin Tarantino’s career started when he was only 14 years old. He wrote a screenplay titled Captain Peachfuzz and the Anchovy Bandit which was based on the 1977 movie called Smokey and the Bandit. His first job in Hollywood, however, came in 1986 when he was hired as a production assistant for Roger Avary. The next year, he appeared in an episode of The Golden Girls where he played the role of an Elvis impersonator.
His breakthrough, however, came in the 1990s when he was hired by Robert Kurtzman to write the script for the movie From Dusk to Dawn. Since then, Quentin has written, produced, and directed many movies. Some of these movies include True Romance, Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Inglorious Bastards, Kill Bill and Django Unchained.
Even though he has become a notable name in the industry, Quentin Tarantino has related several times that he would retire after making his 10th film. In one of these instances, the Pulp Fiction director related that he would devote his time to writing cinema literature and novels when he retires at 60. He added that he might not wait to be 60 if filmmaking becomes so dependent on digital projection that one can’t show 35mm film in theatres anymore.
But He Is Yet to Do So
If we must hold on to his promise to retire after his tenth movie, then the popular filmmaker ought to have announced his retirement after the release of the 2019 popular movie, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood. The comedy-drama film which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. And, it was his tenth film.
His first was Reservoir Dogs, a 1992 crime film he wrote and directed to critical acclaim. After that came the 1994 neo-noir black comedy crime film, Pulp Fiction which he also wrote and directed.
Jackie Brown followed in 1997 and then Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2003 and 2004, respectively. 2007 came and he dropped Death Proof which was followed by Inglourious Basterds in 2009 and Django Unchained in 2012. The last film he directed before Once Upon a Time In Hollywood project was The Hateful Eight in 2015.
Given the foregoing, it is clear that the filmmaker has met his target; so one shouldn’t be surprised if he announces his retirement anytime soon or if he fails to take on another project.
Quentin Tarantino Is the Only Child of His Parents
His full name is Quentin Jerome Tarantino and he was born on the 27th of March, 1963 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is the only child of his parents and was raised only by his mother as his parents got a divorce shortly after their marriage. His father, who is of Italian ancestry, is named Tony Tarantino while his mother, who has both Irish and Cherokee ancestry, is named Connie McHugh. One can’t help but wonder if Quentin Tarantino’s high levels of intelligence and creativity has anything to do with his diverse heritage.
Quentin’s father, Tony, is a well-known actor and producer. In fact, he met his wife Connie in Los Angeles while he was still a law student and part-time entertainer. The two dated briefly and got married quickly as Connie wanted to gain independence from her parents. After the divorce, Connie relocated from Los Angeles to Knoxville where Quentin was born. However, when he was 3 years old in 1966, Connie and her son Quentin moved back to Los Angeles. Connie eventually got married to a musician named Curtis Zastoupil and the whole family moved to Torrance in Los Angeles’ South Bay area.
His Mother Exposed Him to Movies With Adult Content At A Young Age
Quentin Tarantino was born into the Catholic faith but revealed that he has never really been a practitioner of the faith and doesn’t know if he believes in God.
Interestingly, the revered filmmaker did not have a lot of formal education. When he was only 15 years old, he dropped out of Narbonne High School in Harbor City for unknown reasons. After that, he worked as an usher at a porn theater in the city of Torrance. This theater was called the Pussycat Theater. He also took acting classes at the James Best Theater Company and it was at this place he made a strong network of future collaborators.
Quentin’s mother was very liberal with her son’s upbringing and reportedly allowed him to see movies that contained adult content. These movies included Carnal Knowledge and Deliverance. His stepfather was also very supportive of his ambition to go into the world of film and often allowed him to attend numerous film screenings and even accompanied him there.
