Being able to juggle the different forms of art may be seen as no mean feat. However, being able to paint, write screenplays for movies, write a book, and even act in a movie is definitely being multitalented; which Rebecca Miller no doubt is. Rebecca is an American independent filmmaker, novelist, actress, and artist, known for works such as The Ballad of Jack and Rose, Angela, and Maggie’s Plan, among others. In addition to that, she has also appeared in a good number of movies, some of which she wrote and directed.

Beyond that, she is famous for being the doting wife of the popular English actor Daniel Day-Lewis. The couple got hitched in 1996 and has been together ever since. Over and over again, they have been referred to as one of the power couples in Hollywood and we have no choice but to agree. There are so many interesting things to know about Rebecca Miller and all that you’d learn as you scroll through the following paragraphs.

Who is Rebecca Miller, Daniel Day-Lewis’s Wife?

Rebecca Miller was born on the 15th of September, 1962 in the town of Roxbury, Connecticut. The actress was born into a family of professionals; her father was Arthur Miller, a notable, controversial playwright of the 20th Century who received a Pulitzer Prize for his works. Her mother was an Austrian-born woman named Inge Morath who worked as a photographer for the agency, Magnum Photos. Safe to say that Rebecca was born into art and she spent the rest of her life creating more art.

Rebecca Miller was also a little bit of a rebel as she became a practicing Catholic as a child even though her father was Jewish and her mother was Protestant. Although having no siblings, Rebecca was never really left on her own as she was surrounded by artists including Alexander Calder the famous sculptor, Martha Clarke the choreographer, and Phillip Grausman, another sculptor.

For her education, Miller attended Choate Rosemary Hall, a private college preparatory school located in Connecticut. After this, she gained admission to study painting and literature at Yale University in 1980. While at Yale, she was roommates with Naomi Wolf who went on to become a renowned author. She graduated from Yale in 1985 and immediately went to Munich, Germany for a fellowship.

By 1957, she had relocated to New York City where she studied at The New School and received mentorship from the late Arnold Eagle, a photographer and cinematographer. All the knowledge she acquired didn’t go to waste as Rebecca Miller soon began to paint and create sculptures. She displayed her works at various galleries including Castelli Gallery and Victoria Munroe Gallery. She also started to create non-verbal films which she displayed along with her artwork.

Although her first official movie, Angela, a story about a ten-year-old girl’s attempt to cure her mother of mental illness was released in 1995, it cannot be said that this was Rebecca Miller’s first movie production. This is because, in 1991, she produced the short film Florence, which featured the famous actress Marcia Harden. This movie brought her to the limelight and especially caught the attention of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati who thereafter offered her the opportunity to direct the movie After the Fall.

Subsequently, Rebecca Miller has directed several movies, some of which include Personal Velocity: Three Portraits (2002), The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005), The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009), and most recently, Maggie’s Plan (2015). Apart from directing, Rebecca is also a talented actress and played different roles in many movies.

Some of these movies include The Murder of Mary O’Hagan, where she played the role of Lucille Frank, Wind, where she played the role of Abigail Weld, Consenting Adults, where she played the role of Kay Otis, The Pickle, where she starred as Carrie, and Regarding Henry, where she played as Linda. She was also the screenwriter of the 2005 movie, Proof.

As is quite common in the entertainment industry, this power couple met each other on the set of a movie. The movie was the film adaptation of one of her father’s plays called The Crucible, released in 1996 starring Daniel Day-Lewis as a member of its cast. During its production, the duo fell for each other and later began a relationship.

A few months later, the couple exchanged marital vows on the 13th of November, 1996 and have been married since then. Their marriage has produced two amazing children, sons named Ronan (born in 1998) and Cashel, (born in 2002). Daniel also has a son, Gabriel Kane Day-Lewis from his previous relationship with the French film actress and singer, Isabelle Adjani. That notwithstanding, Rebecca Miller has been a wonderful stepmother to Gabriel.
