Having been in the South African entertainment industry for over a decade, 34-year-old Dineo Moektsi needs no further introduction as she is not only a regular face on the red carpet but also a well-known actress, vocalist, dancer, as well as an on-air personality. She came into the spotlight in 2011 after being selected to host the prestigious O-Access TV show aired on Channel O. She also played a pivotal role in the South African household TV drama series The Queen where she creatively interpreted the role of the character Kea Khoza.

More details about the actress as we trace her background and journey to fame, as well as her Sangoma history.

She Is The Daughter Of Veteran Radio Host KG Moeketsi

The TV personality was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1989, by veteran South African TV presenter Kgomotso Moeketsi and celebrates her birthday on the 20th of July every year. Dineo was single-handedly raised by her mother, thus, her father is pretty not in the picture.

There is no gainsaying that her educational attainment has greatly contributed and helped shape the career path she later chose in life and has prepared her for the fame she eventually found. Dineo attended the National School of Arts (NSA) in Joburg before traveling abroad to further her education at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, USA, and graduated in 2009.

Dineo Became Famous At The Age Of 22

It was precisely in 2011 that Dineo’s career took an upward slide after she played host to popular TV show O-Access – a musical magazine program airing on Channel O at the time, she took over from Nonhle Thema, the former host of the show. It was also the same year that she made her silver-screen debut in the movie titled Skyf produced by Thapelo Mokoena. Moreover, prior to that moment, Dineo participated in a nationwide talent hunt competition which led to the discovery of her rare talents before she began landing these roles.

Her fame further soared when she featured in the very popular South African Telenovela The Queen seasons 1-5. She has since become a regular face on the big screen, starring in a couple of other TV productions, including Scandal! where she played the role of Lindiwe in its first season. She was also in the third season of ScreenTime, with Nicky Grenwal playing the role of Naledi. Dineo appeared in the popular SA family show My Perfect Family,  interpreting the character of Shoki perfectly. She also featured in Jacob’s Cross season 5, My Perfect Proposal, Room 9 season 1, SAFTAs season, 8, 10, & 15 as a presenter with a host of others.

Dineo has also been hosting several other red carpet events across South Africa. She has equally starred in some blockbuster movies such as Our Girl in 2013 Golden Highway in 2014, Mrs Right Guy in 2016, and her most recent movie Dam released in 2021.

Her Lavish Wedding & Marriage To Stylish, Award-winning Rapper Solo Langa Was Another Fame Amplifier

Dineo Moeketsi is known for constantly making the headlines and she has never disappointed in giving fans and the media alike something to talk about and one way she has done that is not only via her career but also through her relationship. Another event that put her again in the faces of people and got tongues wagging was her lavished wedding to the stylish, award-winning South African rapper Zothile Solo Langa.

While some believe that her marriage to the famous rapper made her popular, it’s easy to disagree with that, seeing that the screen goddess had already attained fame before she met Langa.

The couple met in 2011 via a blind date set up for them by a mutual friend. They fell head over heels in love afterward and dated for 7 years before finally tying the knot in 2019.  They held their traditional wedding in May 2019 and on the 14th of September in the same year, they exchanged marital vows at the beautiful Embassy Hill in Constantia Valley, Cape Town. It was such a memorable event, as Dineo dazzled photographers with her signature blowing wedding dress.

Although televised on the Kwakuhle Kwethu, a favorite wedding TV show aired on One Magic the ceremony was attended by only close family members and friends who also graced the red carpet with their colorful display of style. The couple currently doesn’t have any kid(s). Hopefully, the little ones will come in due time

Embracing Her Calling As A Sangoma

Away from her career, the TV personality is also known to be a highly spiritual person.
Both Dineo and her husband Solo Langa are known to be Sangomas. Sangoma is a highly respected title among the Zulu people of South Africa. A Sangoma is a healer who diagnoses, prescribes, and often performs the rituals to heal a person either physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually.

Although the couple did not know that they both had such gifts before they began dating, it
was something that manifested later in their relationship. However, Dineo revealed that she has always been attracted to the spirituality of her hubby. According to Solo, he has always known that he had the gift of Sangoma right from when he was a kid but he did not understand what it entails until years later when he fully embraced the calling and became a Sangoma.

On the other hand, Dineo came to terms with her calling as a Sangoma only recently, despite the fact that she was told that she had the gift earlier when she when to consult a Sangoma for a different reason and it was revealed to her that she has the gift of a healer. But, it took her quite a while before she accepted her calling.

Having discovered their callings, the couple went through the initiation process together, and they seem to be quite proud of their spiritual calling as Sangomas. Dineo Moeketsi
admitted that she is glad that she found a partner who was also spiritually grounded and supportive of her spirituality.

Is Dineo Moeketsi Xhosa or Zulu?

The question of Dineo’s tribe has always been something people debate about, basically due to her multilingualism. Moeketsi is actually Xhosa, however, growing up in Motswana and traveling wide gave her the opportunity to learn all the other languages. She speaks Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, and of course, English.

So far, Dineo has shown no signs of slowing down in her career as she keeps moving forward against all odds. Even at the point where she was bullied due to her body shape, she did not allow that to deter her, but she rose up to the challenge and stormed the gym until her hard work yielded positive results and she had the desired body transformation.

This has made her an inspiration to many who have suffered the same in the hands of trolls and bullies, encouraging them to rise up to the challenge and achieve their goals in life with courage.
