Sam Dekker was born Samuel Thomas Dekker on 6th May 1994 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to American parents, Carol and Todd Dekker. He was raised in his place of birth with his two brothers; John and Hannah. His father was instrumental to his career choice and took up the challenge of teaching and coaching Sam in basketball at a tender age which prompted him to develop a keen interest in the game. The efforts later paid off.
Dekker schooled at Sheboygan Lutheran High School, which was where his career kicked off officially. He became the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year, in his senior season. The baller also became the coaches’ favourite and won the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches’ Association’s Mr. Basket award. He did excellently well and was instrumental to the school’s first-ever WIAA state title. In his freshman season, Sam played 35 games, starting just 3, remarkably, he scored season-high 19 points against Arkansas on 24th November 2012 and Nebraska on 26th February 2013.
Following his outstanding performance in his sophomore; he was named the Second Team All-Big Ten by the coaches and the media. Sam Dekker was part of the United States, Under-18 National Team that played against Brazil, earning the gold medal in the FIBA American championship.

He was sidelined for the NBA Summer League, owing to a stubborn back injury he sustained and had to undergo a surgical procedure to correct it.
When the baller recovered from the surgery, he was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets’ D-League affiliate on rehab mission. After regaining fitness, he was called back by the Rockets. Following his return to the court, he scored a career-high of 19 points in the game against Sacramento Kings, with a 132-98 win, on the 14th of December 2016; he continued with the form to 2017, where he made a new career high of 30 points in a 119-95 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on 21st January. The records would prepare him for later glories.
Sam Dekker signed with Los Angeles Clippers on 28th June 2017, in a swap deal; he spent just a season with the team. He is currently rendering his services to the Cleveland Cavaliers which he signed with on the 7th of August 2018.
