Sandra Smith was born—Sandra Kaye Smith—on September 22, 1980, in Wheaton, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. Although we’re not privy to their names, we know her father hails from Wheaton and worked as a floor trader at Chicago’s Mercantile Exchange. Her mother, on the other hand, was a native of Oklahoma. Sandra spent the greater part of her childhood in Wheaton, alongside her four sisters and one brother. Growing up, she attended Wheaton Warrenville South High School where she graduated from in 1998. She was 18 at the time.

Following her graduation from high school, Smith proceeded to Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal but later transferred to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she majored in business and minored in speech. Nevertheless, her sportsmanship continued. At LSU, Smith ran the 1,500 meters and 3,000-meter races during the outdoor sports season. In addition, she was reputed for her speed and agility which she attributes to her favorite childhood game, ring and run.

Her Career Progression

Following her graduation from Louisiana State University, Sandra Smith got her start in business as a research associate at Aegis Capital Group (ACG). At ACG, Smith’s work bordered on research and analysis of retail stocks. She prepared weekly stock newsletters to enable clients identify investment opportunities. She then moved to the New York City-based firm, Hermitage Capital Corporation, where she worked as a trader. Smith then left New York for Chicago to take up a role as an investment manager for hedge fund accounts at Terra Nova Institutional.

After many years, Sandra Smith made her first TV appearance as an on-air reporter for Bloomberg Television. This was possible because she minored in Speech back in college. While there, Smith covered derivatives markets and U.S. equities and contributed her opinions to breaking news and analysis. When the higher calling came in October 2007, Sandra Smith left Bloomberg for a reporting job on FOX Business Network (FBN). FBN was in its early stage at the time.

In October of 2009, She became a regular face on the show Imus in the Morning. She also guest-appeared in Fox Business Happy Hour and Fox News Channel’s Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld. On Wednesdays, Smith appears on the program, Hannity. In April of 2014, Sandra Smith’s portfolio was further expanded when she began to co-host Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered. The show involved four Fox News female commentators and a male guest discussing current news and trending issues.
