His matter-of-fact approach coupled with his candid humor has won him hearts across the U.S. and beyond, making him a point of interest to many people. Who is Steve Wilkos?
Steve Wilkos was born Steven John Wilkos in Chicago, Illinois, on March 9, 1964; to parents Stanley Wilkos and Jeanette Pelikan. His father was a police officer who served in the Korean War as an army paratrooper while his mother worked as a beauty school instructor.
Wilkos and his three siblings were raised in what we now know to be Roscoe Village neighborhood in North Center, Chicago. While we are not sure where he received his elementary education, we know he attended Lane Technical High School where he graduated from in 1982.
Fresh from high school, Steve Wilkos enrolled in the United States Marine Corps in October of that year and served in South Korea, Japan, Illinois, Virginia, and South Carolina before he was discharged in March of 1989. The following year, he joined the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and was stationed in areas such as the Logan Square, Humboldt Park, and Near West Side neighborhoods.
While still with the CPD, Wilkos got called up by the producers of The Jerry Springer Show. The show needed security guards, and so the producers hired Wilkos and other off-duty police officers to work part-time for the show in May 1994. Wilkos enlisted several other fellow officers for the job and by 2001, he retired and began working solely for the show.
Steve Wilkos’ time on the show was punctuated with several other gigs. Reports have it that he had a short brush with professional wrestling at the Maryland Championship Wrestling during a temporary production hiatus of Springer. Wilkos also guest-appeared on the restaurant-reviewing program, Check, Please!, which aired on Chicago’s PBS station, WTTW in 2005.
The following year, Wilkos filled in for show host Jerry Springer during his seven-episode stint on Dancing with the Stars. His incredible showmanship further got him a slot to stand in for Springer every Monday. Other shows he appeared in include Between Brothers, The Wayans Bros. and in the movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me where he appeared as a security guard for Jerry Springer.
In January 2007, NBC Universal Television made the official announcement that Steve Wilkos would host his very own talk show at the NBC Tower in Chicago. The Steve Wilkos Show premiered on September 10, 2007, and garnered interestingly high ratings. Wilkos soon got a reputation for being coarse at solving disputes. With the help of his wife, he made incredible changes that made the show even more interesting for more level-headed viewers.

Steve Wilkos has been married to producer Rachelle Consiglio, since 2000. Consiglio serves as the executive producer of his show as well as for Springer. Together, they have two children; Ruby (b. October 14, 2003) and Jack (b. June 19, 2005).
