Sza’s Biography and Ethnicity
Sza’s ethnicity traces back to his parents who are African Americans. Raised in a family that practiced mixed religion but was mostly groomed as a Muslim, the singer was named Solána Imani Rowe at birth on November 8, 1990. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and groomed in Maplewood, New Jersey. Sza is of African-American heritage.
As with every normal Muslim child, Sza attended a Muslim Prep school every evening after returning from the regular school. She was a sports lady who was active in gymnastics and cheerleading while at Columbia High School. In her second year, the singer was rated as one of the best gymnasts in the whole of United States.
But as ironical as it may sound, high school days wasn’t a smooth ride for Sza as she was bullied due to the September 11 attacks in the US, which made her stop wearing the hijab. Upon graduation from high school, she proceeded to study marine biology at Delaware State University.
In a bid to make income, Sza took up minor jobs after graduating from college but eventually had to pursue her dreams as a singer. She coined her stage name Sza from the supreme alphabet and was also influenced by rapper RZA.
Already, Sza’s father who was also a lover of music never knew that the many music gigs he played would someday influence his daughter’s choice of career. Today, the singer’s is best described as a neo-soul singer. She started her journey into the music industry in 2011 after she was introduced to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). As at that time, she had recorded a few songs and had given it to TDE who loved it and also kept contact with her.
A year after, Sza released her debut extended play, EP, See.SZa.Run. That EP received a lot of critical acclaims which led to the big bang victory for her second EP, S. She also went ahead to promote the extended play with the release of the music video for Ice Moon. That same period, she took up to performing live tours and also released yet another song titled Teen Spirit.
The following year was basically more of doing collaborations for the singer as she featured in various music videos and contributed to a lot of music gigs. She released her own single, Child’s Play singing along with Chance The Rapper, and also released her first studio EP, Z. On and on, Sza kept on with the release of several music gigs, collaborating with other music artists in a few of them, while in others, she took up the studio all by herself.
