Teez Tabor is an American football player who plays as a cornerback for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He joined the team after he was selected in the 2017 NFL Draft as the 53rd overall in the second round.

His journey to becoming a professional football player began during his days at Friendship Collegiate Academy and continued at the University of Florida before his NFL career.

His Early Life and Career Achievements

Born Jalen Tabor on December 31, 1995, in Washington, D.C., the agile cornerback revealed in an interview that family and friends started addressing him by the name “Teez” when he was in middle school. Somehow, he got used to it and even prefers it to his real name to the point of tattooing it on his arm.

Even though the NFL professional tries as much as possible to keep his family and private life away from the public, we know his mother’s name is Merri Tabor and he has a brother called Roger. The footballer mentioned his brother in an interview published on his school’s website, saying he (his brother) is the reason why the name Teez stuck since his childhood. However, it is not known whether Roger is his only sibling.

Teez started playing football when he was a student at Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington, D.C. He played so well that Rivals.com rated him as a five-star recruit.

At the completion of his high school career, the strong player moved on to the University of Florida where he began his college career, playing for the Gators. Meanwhile, he initially made a commitment to the University of Arizona before he had a change of mind.

Playing all 12 games during his freshman year in 2014 under head coach Will Muschamp, Teez Tabor made 5 starts, 31 tackles, 2 sacks, and one interception.

During his sophomore season in 2015, he played 13 games under a new coach, Jim McElwain, recording 9 starts. His record of 39 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 1 sack earned him, for the first time, a first-team All-SEC selection with the second one following in his junior season in 2016.

Meanwhile, the strong player was suspended earlier in the season for not taking a drug test and then again in 2016, for violating team rules.

Teez later forwent his senior season and entered the 2017 NFL Draft. Consequently, sports analysts beamed their lights on him.

A majority of NFL draft experts and analysts believed Tabor was very talented and had what it takes to fly high in football. As a result, he was projected to be a first-round pick at the NFL draft following his invitation to the Combine. However, his performance at the NFL Combine turned out to be unimpressive.

His performance at Florida’s Pro Day where he made another attempt at the 40-yard dash, 20-yard dash, and 10-yard dash also ended as a flop as he put in slower times in all three dashes. This led him to sign up for private workouts held by the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and Detroit Lions.

Treez Tabor’s draft stock began to take a nose dive with experts and analysts projecting him to fall to the second or third round. He was, nevertheless, still able to maintain a position among the top ten best cornerbacks in the draft as Sports Illustrated ranked him 8th even though NFLDraftScout.com and ESPN ranked him 12th.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Tabor in the second round, making him the ninth cornerback to be picked and the 53rd overall player. He subsequently sealed a four-year deal worth $4.82 million with the team. This includes $2.33 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $1.64 million.

He began his rookie season competing for the starting cornerback position with Nevin Lawson and D. J. Hayden and was eventually named the fourth cornerback in the team to start his rookie season. The player made his professional debut on the 1st of October 2017, in the game which ended in a win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Teez Tabor has a terrific size and athleticism that makes him a standout player. He stands at a height of 6 inches and weighs 198.4 lb. His hand size is 8 5/8 inches while his arm length is 32 inches.
