The Complete List of All the Bank Codes In Kenya

A branch code is like an identification for every branch of a bank or financial institution. More often than not, one bank may have more than one branch in a single location, and even when the addresses are the same, the branch code will always differ, distinguishing one from the other. Branch codes are always available as can be accessed from various means, via the checkbook, passbooks, website, and so on.

A bank’s branch code is very important as it comes in handy while carrying out banking transactions; thus, it is advisable to always keep it handy. For this piece, we have rounded up the branch codes for all the banks in Kenya.

List of All The Banks in Kenya with Their Branches and Bank Codes

Before we go into individual codes of a bank’s branch, we must first acknowledge that there is something called a bank code. Every financial institution has its own distinguishing code which usually comes in double digits and this two-digit number constitutes part of every branch code under that particular bank. A good instance can be drawn from Equity Bank Kenya that has its bank code as 68; thus, this number appears in the first two digits of every branch code under Equity.

For example, the branch code for the bank’s Head Office is 000 but it is written as 68000 with 68 representing the bank. In the same vein, the Corporate branch has 001 as its branch number but it is represented as 68001.

What Is A Universal Branch Code

A Universal Branch Code can be described as a single user-friendly code that is associated with all the branches of a particular bank or financial institution. This unique number can be used by any customer of a bank for any transaction irrespective of where his account is domiciled.

Branch Code

Basically, a branch code is a number that tells the location of the branches of a bank. All the branches under a particular bank will each have their own unique code that will distinguish them from others. Even before you see the name of a bank’s branch, the code can convey the message.

Universal Branch Code Vs Branch Code

While branch codes exist for each and every branch of a bank, the Universal branch code can only be one (a single code) for a bank or financial institution and all the branches under the bank can leverage the number for their transaction. People can now conduct transactions faster by using the generic-universal branch code instead of constantly searching each branch code for transactions.

How Do I Find My Bank’s Universal Branch Code?

Getting access to your bank’s universal branch code is easy. In fact, it is almost ubiquitous; you will find it on every single cheque leaf, it is always present on your passbook, and what’s more, it can be accessed through your bank’s website. All you need to do is log on and you will have it in a jiffy.
