It is entirely possible that every generation receives their own fair share of criticism, but millennials do indeed seem to receive more than a fair share, with commentary after commentary being passed on all the things they seemingly are getting wrong. To clarify, a millennial in most circles is defined as anyone born within the year 1980-2000.

The younger generation of today’s world are millennials as explained above – subjects of the pressure and troubles of societal change.

They are likely to be your obsessively phone savvy children, seemingly lazy younger sibling who constantly seems to be sitting around or sleeping or they may even be your humble self, taking a selfie and wondering what everyone is making such a fuss about. The Guardian released a list of the world’s most powerful millennials this week and today we showcase five of them that make up a varied offering; a technological entrepreneur,  musicians, an actress and a footballer and by considering this list, you will hopefully learn to appreciate the possibilities available to and inherent in virtually every millennial.

It is difficult to remember a time when Facebook was not around. Mark Zuckerberg practically revolutionized the social media space with his innovation that has over time become one of the biggest websites in the world.

The young billionaire has continued to engulf the world of millennials with his exceptional and significant influence on communication relations. Zuckerberg practically changed the game of interpersonal communication in the world of millennials.

Facebook is now used as a platform for activism of the gravest kinds; it is also where you’re most likely to hear of the birth of a child to your not so close cousin. Mark Zuckerberg himself for all his daring efforts is now worth a whopping $46.7 billion easily cementing his place as one of the powerful millennials.

Featuring almost yearly on the Forbes 100 most powerful women list, with this year’s list ranking her at number 21, it’s easy to forget that Beyonce is actually a millennial. Beyonce and her rapper/music mogul husband have a combined net worth of $1 billion. Starting a culture of dropping albums with no prior publicity and churning out hit records with ease, Beyonce is definitely one of our powerful millennials. Significantly felt not just in showbiz but also in politics and activism, Queen B as she is affectionately called by her fans is all shades of a true woman of substance.

Black is beautiful indeed. Lupita Nyong’o is a Mexican-Kenyan artist and very easily Africa’s darling girl. In 2001, Bim Adewunmi named her quite aptly, “crush of the year”. Already with an Oscar to her name for her supporting part in 12 Years a Slave, she has also been named by People Magazine, also in 2014 as the most beautiful woman in the world. She keeps the flag flying in her acting forays and there’s no doubt that the 33-year-old will keep climbing higher.

The 24-year-old Brazilian captain and Barcelona footballer is known simply as Neymar Jr, and besides stealing the hearts of many on the field, he has a prolific Instagram presence that guarantees him a following from practically every corner. Neymar once estimated to have a whopping $31 million as his total earnings and this figure has continued to rise.

With his record-breaking $270,000,000 deal with Paris Saint Germain, Neymar cannot be easily forgotten in a very very long time.

Justin Bieber

The last but not the least on our list of powerful millennials is musician Justin Bieber who will forever be admired for his swift breakthrough from his humble beginnings. Justin Bieber’s journey is one that is sure to inspire any millennial. From days as a YouTube sensation to becoming a now international artiste, Bieber is said to be worth up to $200 million. He can boast of an Instagram following of 60 million and has smashed records held by both the Beatles and Drake for having the most songs in the Billboard Hot 100 chart – 17 in one week.

He is a sweetheart in the entertainment industry, a prince charming to his female fans and as mentioned earlier, a true inspiration to the millennial generation.
