The creators of the show (Bonnie and Terry Turner) whose daughter attended the same high school with Topher saw him act in a school play and thought he would be perfect for the role. Although he decided not to return for the last season of the show, instead he bought an apartment in New York to focus on his film career and be closer to his parents, his appearances on That ’70s Show served as a springboard that launched his career in Hollywood.
