Who is Trevante Rhodes?
Trevante Nemour Rhodes was born on the 10th of February 1990 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. He hails from a family of four comprising of his father, Jessi Rhodes, his mother, Demour Dangelo, and a brother named Giovanni. The actor’s parents divorced when he was four and he was subsequently raised by his single mom. Rhodes grew up in the town of Little Elm, Texas, and attended Little Elm High School. While there, he was a multi-sport athlete and specialized in track and field as well as football. He recorded some outstanding exploits on the pitch and thus earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. At UT Austin, Rhodes completed his degree in petroleum land management. He also continued his magnificent sports record, winning gold for his country at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. Rhodes has since revealed that he is not really passionate about sports but only did it to pay for college.
Trevante Rhodes commenced his Hollywood career in 2014, appearing in a short film titled Open Windows. He later went on to land parts in several short films and TV series including The Night is Young, Lady Luck, Shangri-La Suite, Gang Related, If Loving You is Wrong and West World. Rhodes finally got his breakthrough in 2016 when he landed a part in Moonlight. Moonlight is a 2016 coming-of-age drama directed by Barry Jenkins. The movie revolves around a gay black young man, Chiron, as he deals with emotional and physical abuse as well as his sexuality. Moonlight featured stars such as Mahershala Ali and Janelle Monae while Rhodes played the lead role of Chiron. His performance earned him several accolades including outstanding breakthrough performance (male) at the 2017 Black Reel Awards. Is Trevante Rhodes Gay?
Despite being famous for portraying a gay character, we can unequivocally reveal that Trevante Rhodes is not gay. The Moonlight star is, however, a supporter of gay rights and has revealed that a close friend of his went through a hard time when he came out as gay. Meanwhile, Rhodes is engaged to his girlfriend Mara Wright. Wright is a fitness model as well as a trained martial artist, boasting of skills in Tae Kwon Do, Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. She has also appeared in a couple of movies and is based in Los Angeles. Additionally, Wright is of German and African-American ancestry, she has a white dad and a black mom. His hair color is black while his eye color is also black. Rhodes maintains his physique through a highly-disciplined exercise regimen. He gets up by 4:30 am each day to meditate. He then spends the next couple of hours in the gym, doing abs as well as jogging. The routine reinvigorates the actor each day and leaves him feeling like he can do anything.
Where is Trevante Rhodes Now?
Since the overwhelming success of Moonlight, Trevante Rhodes has not relented but has continued to soar high in his career. The Texas native has gone on to feature in several movies including 12 Strong, The Predator and Bird Box. Bird Box is a 2018 drama/thriller based on a Josh Malerman novel of the same name. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious force compels people, who look it in the face, to harm themselves. Bird Box featured Sandra Bullock in the lead role of Malorie Hayes while Trevante Rhodes played the supporting role of Tom. The movie received mixed reviews and spurned an ill-advised bird box challenge on social media.
