Ty Montgomery is an American footballer who came into the scene of the National Football League (NFL) in 2015 after he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the year’s NFL Draft. Although drafted as a wide receiver, he switched to running back in 2016.

The former consensus All-American and two-time Pac-12 Champion played high school football in St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas, Texas before moving on to the prestigious Stanford University for his college career.

Ty Montgomery’s Bio

Born Tyler Anthony Montgomery II on the 22nd of January, 1993, in Jackson, Mississippi, the footballer who has always been a sports enthusiast was a star in five different sports while he was in high school. He played football, track, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse.

On the gridiron, he played in various positions, including wide receiver, running back, and quarterback, recording 823 rushes on 93 carries and 17 catches with a total of 10 touchdowns. By the end of his high school career, he had made 118 catches and 36 total touchdowns.

After his high school career, Ty decided to focus on football and was able to secure a spot at Stanford University where he played for the Stanford Cardinal football as a wide receiver from 2011 to 2014. During his freshman year, he made some good scores, playing on both offense and special teams. His statistics continued to get better with each game and by the end of his freshman year, Ty Montgomery had recorded 24 receptions for 350 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns to go along with 42 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

By his second year (2012), Ty continued played on offense and special teams, finishing the season with 26 receptions for 213 yards. He also made 11 kick returns for 293 net yards for a 26.6 average.

Following his steady show of improvement and strong play in every game, the wide receiver was named to the All-American team in his junior year as a return specialist. By the close of 2013, he led the nation with an average of 31.2-yard kickoff return and scored two touchdowns. He finished his career at Stanford as the school’s all-time leader in kickoff return yards with 2,493, beating the initial 2,132-yard mark recorded by Chris Owusu 2008-11.

Following a less productive senior year in 2014, Ty Montgomery concluded his senior season with 61 receptions for 604 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns to go along with 144 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown while the total scores he made throughout his college career came to 172 receptions for 2,125 yards and 15 touchdown receptions.

On May 21, 2015, the player signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers, having been selected by the team in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He made his professional debut against the Chicago Bears on September 13. TY only played in six games as a rookie before being sidelined as a result of an ankle injury he suffered in week 6 during a game against San Diego Chargers.

On December 13, 2016, Ty Montgomery was declared a running back due to injuries which kept running backs James Starks and Eddie Lacy away from the gridiron. Playing in the position for the rest of the 2016 season, Ty made 457 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, 44 receptions, and 348 receiving yards.

His records in the 2017 season were way below par and this was, to a large extent, as a result of injuries. He broke his ribs in week 4 and re-injured it in week 10. Ty was eventually placed on injured reserve till the end of the season after he had to undergo surgery for a wrist injury. Despite the injuries, he was able to make a total of 273 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, 23 receptions, 173 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown in the season.

Following his selection by the Green Bay Packers in the 2015 NFL Draft, Ty Montgomery sealed a 4-year deal with the team worth $2,948,795, including a signing bonus of $606,545, $606,545 guaranteed and an average yearly salary of $737,199. The player will cash home a base salary of $716,500 and a workout bonus of $12,000 in 2018 while carrying a cap hit of $880,137 and a dead cap value of $163,637.

Ty Montgomery was born to Ty Montgomery Sr. and Lisa Frazier but he grew up living with just his mother because his parents’ marriage was dissolved when he was only three years old. However, his father remained active in his life and was his earliest football tutor alongside his mother.

The Packers player was the only child from his parents’ union and according to him, he always wanted a brother. He communicated this wish to his mother when he was in third grade and as a result, she decided to become a foster parent. However, his desire for just a brother ended with Ty having seventeen of them, including Lee, Eddie, Michael, Kenneth, Raymond, etc. So, with 17 foster kids – all boys, living in their home, sports became a major part of the family’s everyday life. Little wonder why Ty excelled in five sports in high school.

On March 3, 2017, Ty Montgomery tied the knot with Remy Klamer in Hidden Vines Chapel, Grapevine, Texas. Remy, like Ty, was also involved in athletic activities while in high school. Although she was part of her school’s track and field team, she chose to pursue a degree in interior design from Baylor University and also earned another degree in business administration from Naveen Jindal School of Management in 2017.

On June 13, 2018, the couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Stone Anthony Montgomery.
