Tyrus is an actor of American origin, professional wrestler and cable TV political commentator. He was popular as Brodus Clay during his stint in WWE as well as Total Nonstop Action, but he later changed his name to Tyrus. He trained at WWE’s farm territories Florida Championship Wrestling and Deep South Wrestling, following which he made his debut in the 4th season of WWE NXT – a TV show where they paired rookies with the professional wrestlers as mentors. His debut was on the main roster, the same way as his pro-Alberto Del Rio’s bodyguard.

2012 saw him changing his gimmick to The Funkusaurus which was a funk dancer managed by Cameron and Naomi, the Funkydactyls. Till his departure in 2014, he participated in numerous WWE feuds as well as storylines and the fact that the professional wrestler went undefeated for a long time made him even more popular. When he teamed up with Lord Tensai, he had to change Tensai’s gimmick to match that of Clay, but towards his last days in WWE, Tyrus suddenly turned heel and severed relationships with both Funkydactyls and Tensai.

Tyrus’ Biography

He may be popular as Tyrus but his birth name is George Murdoch. Born in Pasadena, California, the USA on the 21st of February 1980, the young talent had to put up with some form of racial discrimination from his mother’s side of the family. According to him, his mum is white while his dad is a black man; both his parents were teenagers at the time of his birth with his father 19 while his mum just turned 15. He disclosed an incident that happened during his formative years when his dad whom he described as abusive damaged one of his eyes after he hit him. It was this particular incident that led his mum to leave his dad and return to her parent’s home.

Tyrus went further to reveal that because they were the children of a black man, both he and his brother were not well received at his maternal grandparent’s home. In fact, they had to put up with a foster family for several years, during which he nursed some obsessive thoughts about changing the color of his skin, with the belief that he may succeed in reuniting with his family once he becomes white. Eventually, the two brothers went back to live with their mum, subsequently, Tyrus made the decision to leave home at the age of 15.

His early education was accomplished at Quartz Hill High School located in LA County, California in 1990, following which he proceeded to Antelope Valley College in 1992. His educational qualifications did not end there; he went to study to become a teacher at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, participating in college football during his years in the University. However, he had to put a closure to his dream of becoming a professional footballer following surgery to have his ruptured appendix removed which left him with a permanent limp after severing some nerve endings in his leg. He is a current resident of Louisiana but shuttles between LA and New York.

He trained at WWE’s farm territories where he also debuted as a professional wrestler. After he left WWE in 2014, the wrestler went to work for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling from 2014 to 2017 under the ring name Tyrus. He later attained another level of fame as one of the regular panelists on The Greg Gutfeld Show. At one time in his life, Tryus was with singer and actor Snoop Dogg as a bodyguard and also had some time out as an actor.
