Victoria Digiorgio is the wife of former Gambino crime boss John Gotti and mother of John A. Gotti. Despite the criminal activities her husband was involved in, she still stayed and protected her family as best as she could.

Victoria Digiorgio was born in Brooklyn, New York City on the 5th of December, 1942. Victoria is American by birth, but she has Italian and Russian blood in her veins. She is the daughter of an Italian father and a Russian mother. Her parents relocated to the United States and got jobs working in New York City factories. Victoria Digiorgio grew up in the Brooklyn and Queens’ boroughs and was initially raised by both parents. Reports have it that her parents got a divorce when she was 2 years old. After the divorce, she went on to live with her mother. Victoria’s educational background is uncertain, but the general consensus is that she had some form of education growing up. There are no details on who her siblings are, or if she even has any.

Victoria Digiorgio possesses a quiet persona, doing her best not to draw too much attention. While she was married to John Gotti she stayed home as a faithful housewife. She has mentioned that she spent days at the racetrack together with her husband. Whenever her husband gave Victoria money to bet with, she would divide it in two and only use half for betting; the rest she’d keep for home expenses. This practice led people to believe that Victoria Digiorgio has some Jewish blood in her. She has refuted the rumor though, and despite how many times she mentioned her father was Russian people still assumed he was Jewish. She has stated she feels no animosity towards those that think she’s Jewish.

Marriage and Husband

Victoria Digiorgio is most notable for being the wife of criminal mob boss John Gotti. As the reports go, the two of them met at a New York City bar in 1958. Shortly afterward, they started dating each other. Several years went by, and finally, they exchanged vows on the 6th of March, 1962. Victoria was well aware of her husband’s criminal activities and was strongly against them. She even had fights with him about them, asking him over and over to get out of the life of crime and live according to the law. However, Victoria did not openly admit to her husband’s criminal activities in public.

John Gotti was born in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City, on the 27th of October, 1940. He was an American national as both his parents were also born in the US. However, his ancestry hails from the municipality of San Giuseppe Vesuviano located in Naples, Italy. He was the fifth child in a home of thirteen children and the second son to be initiated into the Gambino crime family. From as young as the age of 14, John Gotti was already involved in criminal activities. He dropped out of Franklin K. Lane High School when he was 16 so he could focus on being part of the Fulton-Rockaway Boys, a gang associated with the Mafia.

John Gotti worked his way through the crime family and steadily rose to prominence. Dissatisfied with the mismanagement and greed of boss Paul Castellano. After going against the crime boss’s ban on dealing drugs as an income source, John feared the boss would kill him and his brother as the punishment for disobeying was death. He planned a coup and succeeded in killing Castellano with an ambush on the 16th of December, 1985. On the 15th of January, 1986 Gotti was officially named the new leader of the Gambino family. In 1998, the mob boss was diagnosed with throat cancer. His health deteriorated, and on the 10th of June, 2002 he died.

Victoria Digiorgio and John Gotti had five children together: Angel, first daughter and child born in 1961; Victoria, second daughter and child born in 1962; John A. (also known as John Jr.), third child and first son born in 1964; Frank, fourth child and second son born in 1967; and Peter Jr., fifth child and third son whose date of birth is unknown. Frank Gotti was involved in an accident in March 1980 when he was rammed into by a car while riding a bike. He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly afterward.

After John Gotti’s incarceration on the 23rd of June, 1992 John A. Gotti was believed to have taken over as acting boss of the Gambino family. Victoria Digiorgio was vehemently against this and confronted her husband several times in prison to remove their son from the life of crime. The post later went to Gotti’s brother Peter.
