Few months after the demise of Viji, her father reportedly made a police complaint that he was suspicious about the death of his daughter, quoting that she might have been murdered. The suspicion was based on the fact that his request to see his daughter’s corpse was not granted by Sadhguru as he immediately cremated her body after the incident instead of burying her, And secondly, that in their country, nobody cremates someone who attained Mahasamadhi.
The New Indian Express newspaper reported on August 1997 that a case had been filed against Sadhguru accusing him of causing the death of his wife. The case was transferred to the Coimbatore Police.
