Controversies to Waka Flocka’s Name, What He Is Up To Since Retiring From Music and All About His Wife

Sometimes being a celebrity comes with its own curses and a large platform is one of the surprising downsides to fame. Having a large platform and fanbase means that the erroneous things you do will be seen and heard by more people. Waka Flocka is an American Rapper who has had a successful career and built a brand for himself but he is known for a number of things that can be harmful to his image.

Ranging from robbery attacks to public fights, his brand has been plagued by the controversies that he has been embroiled in. Notwithstanding, he had a good run in the industry before dropping the mic to focus on his personal life.

Waka Flocka Has Been Involved In A Number of Incidents Involving Gun Violence

In March of 2010, during a concert that Waka Flocka had in Indiana, shots were fired and 8 teenagers were hit by bullets. Luckily, none of the boys were fatally injured. In that same year, he was arrested after he went for a show in Houston. Flocka was on probation in Georgia for gun possession and was not supposed to leave that state while he was serving probation. The gangster rapper was arrested in Houston but was only held for two days.

In another gun-related incident, Flocka was at a car wash when he was attacked and robbed. This happened in 2012, the rapper was at Bubble Bath Car Wash in Atlanta when he was approached by an armed man who had demanded that he give him his jewelry. Flocka decided to fend him off which led to a fight breaking out. The gun was fired and a bullet was lodged in the rapper’s right arm, he was safe and suffered no major injuries, and recovered fully a few weeks after.

His Fallout With Long-time Friend Gucci Mane

For most of 2013, Waka Flocka was involved in a long-drawn-out feud with one of his closest friends and mentor, Gucci Mane. The two worked together on Brick Squad Records but on March 15, 2013, it came to light that Flocka had been dropped from the record label. This announcement was made by Gucci Mane and in response to the news, Flocka made an insulting remark to Mane.

Gucci Mane responded and this led to a volley of insults between the two on Twitter. Mane would then claim that his account was hacked, a claim Waka Flocka dismissed as being false. Later in that month, at a radio interview, Flocka stated that he was no longer friends with Gucci Mane and the two of them would never work together again, saying that they were going their separate ways in their careers.

All was quiet between the two until “Ice Cream” a diss track targeted at Mane was released by Waka Flocka in October. In the next month, Flocka, alongside some of his associates, was served with a lawsuit from Gucci Mane, accusing them of fraud, racketeering, and breach of contract.

It would seem that the fight ended in September of 2014 when Waka Flocka tweeted an old picture where he was with Gucci Mane, which he tagged #NoBeef. But in 2017, the topic of the feud came up again, this time Waka Flocka was antagonizing Mane again. After the interview, Flocka released another diss track targeting Mane.

To crown all of the controversies he has flirted with, Waka Flocka released his debut album Flockaveli in 2010. This was a clear nod to the 2Pac alter ego Makaveli. Flocka had stated that naming his album in this manner was an attempt to have fans compare him to the late rapper while paying homage to how he had influenced his music.

The Rapper Retired 10 Years Into His Career

In 2009, Waka Flocka released the song “O Let’s Do It” and it was an instant success but it only peaked at the 62nd position on the US Billboard charts. This came after a year he started his career as a member of the Brick Squad with a couple of other rappers which included Gucci Mane. In 2010, MTV named him the 8th hottest MC of that year.

His career has spawned a number of notable works which include his Flockaveli album and the Salute Me or Shoot Me mixtapes. In the course of his career, he worked with a number of artists, in 2011, he and Gucci Mane released their collaborative album Ferrari Boyz. Round of Applause is a song that he worked on with Drake which was in his second album while his mixtape DuFlocka Rant 2 features performances from artists such as Lil Wayne, Ace Hood, and French Montana.

After a successful career in music that began in 2008, Waka Flocka decided that he was ready to quit the music scene in 2018. This came ten years after his debut and the release of 2 studio albums and numerous mixtapes. Flocka declared that he had made enough money from music and wanted to quit to focus on his family.

What Flocka Has Been Up To Post-retirement

During his retirement, he still continued the work he did on Love and Hip-Hop while making plans to create a spin-off with his wife. He came out of retirement in 2020 to announce the release of the follow-up album Flockaveli 2 which he had hinted was ready to be released before he went into retirement.

The rapper has tilted all his focus to his family since his retirement. As a strong fan of Atlanta United, there are talks that he may eventually coach a youth team in the club. Flocka and his wife are also a part of the reality show Love and Hip Hop Atlanta. The show features Atlanta dwellers actively involved in hip hop.

Waka Flocka Flame received an honorary degree in philanthropy and humanitarianism from the Bible Institute of America Theological Seminary in 2020. This was for his charity and mental health advocacy.

Waka Flocka met his wife in 2011; he was in Miami performing at a club when he saw her. Tammy Riveria is a fashion designer and businesswoman who was on vacation with her friends. Flocka liked the energy she exuded and when they met, he told her that she would be his wife. That fateful evening, she had told her friends not to go to a certain club because she felt a fight would break out there, and it did.

That was the first club Flocka was at before he came to the club where Tammy was with her friends. They got married in 2014 on May 25. Tammy’s daughter from a previous relationship, Charlie was in attendance as part of the wedding party and Flocka gifted her a diamond ring like he had given her mother.
