Me Before You is a 2016 romantic drama which revolves around Will Traynor, a successful banker who has everything going for him. His life story, however, takes a dramatic turn after a road accident leaves him quadriplegic, and permanently confined to a wheelchair. Will loses his zest for life and his desperate parents hire a happy, outgoing young woman, named Lou, in the hopes that she’ll cheer him up. Me Before You featured Emilia Clarke as Lou while Claflin portrayed Will. The movie received mixed reviews but was still a box office hit; grossing $208.3 million on a budget of $20 million.

Claflin has two children from his previous marriage to Laura Haddock, an accomplished English actress. She has featured in several movies and TV series including Luther, Captain America: The First Avengers, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Claflin and Haddock first met while they were auditioning for a movie part in 2011. It was love at first sight for the actor as he immediately called his agent to inform him that he had seen the woman he will marry. The besotted Claflin later ran into Haddock at the London underground station, and a romance ensued.
The couple dated for nearly two years before tying the knot in July 2013. They later welcomed two children, son, Pip (b. 2015) and daughter, Margot (b. 2018) in the course of the union.
