Who Is Kevin Owens?
Unknown to many, his real name is Kevin Steen and he was born on the 7th of May 1984 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. He was raised by his two parents in Marieville, Quebec. His parents were very supportive of his ambition to be a professional wrestler and sometimes took him for his training. He was raised with his brother who is named Edward. He holds a Canadian and is of French descent with his first language being French. However, he learned how to speak the English Language when he was only a teenager and he imitated every English word he heard on television while watching WWE Monday Night RAW.
As a young boy, Kevin developed a deep love for sports and participated in quite a number of them including baseball, ice hockey, and soccer. However, he had no intention of pursuing any of these sports professionally. When he was only 11 years old, he sustained a major injury but recovered quite well.
Kevin Owens’ Career
For Kevin Owens, his decision to become a professional wrestler was made after he watched the match between Diesel and Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XI with his father. At the age of 14, his dad permitted him to begin training with a popular wrestler in Quebec named Serge Jodoin and that began the first active step Kevin took towards becoming a wrestler. The next year, he changed trainers and began receiving lessons from Jacques Rougeau. After that, he began to train with Terry Taylor and established a good relationship with him and would later refer to him as his main trainer.
After years of training, Kevin Owens fought in his first match when he was just 16 years old on his birthday, 7th of May, in L’Assumption, Quebec. Soon, Kevin left Canada and began to wrestle internationally. He made his first international fight on the 16th of August, 2003 in the International Wrestling Syndicate (IWS). In October 2003, he and El Generico were defeated by Pierre Carl Ouellet in a triple threat match. After this, he had a singles match against El Generico on the 15th of November, 2003 and was defeated.
The following year, however, Kevin Owens came back strong and defeated El Generico; he bagged the IWS World Heavyweight Championship. This was a very huge milestone in the career of this young wrestler and he became an even bigger sensation the following year when he retained the title after beating Roderick Strong on the 30th of October, 2004. He continued to win many more championships including the All American Wrestling, Heavyweight Championship, CZW Iron Man Championship, and NXT Championship.
Did He Actually Quit WWE?
A major matchup was made for Kevin Owens that would determine his tenure in WWE. The fight was against former SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon, the son of WWE CEO Vince McMahon. The match was scheduled at WWE’s SummerSlam. Kevin Owens stated that if he lost the match, he was going to quit WWE. The fight was as a result of a rivalry brewing between the two wrestlers. Fortunately, on the 11th of August, 2019, Kevin won the match and retained his position in the WWE.
Where Is Kevin Owens Now?
Kevin Owens is still very much a wrestler with the WWE. However, whenever he isn’t in the ring wrestling for victory to the delight of his fans, he stays with his family in the US. As it turns out, Kevin Owens is out of the market and has been for a while. He is married to a woman named Katrina and their marriage has been blessed with two kids. His son is named Owen (after Owen Hart) and his daughter is named Elodie Leila.
