Versatile American professional skateboarder, Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins is popular as one of the best female skaters the world has ever had. Lyn-Z counts among the few all-around female skaters who experiment with virtually all aspects of the sport from verts and bowls, to street and mega ramp (including men’s). She has so far accomplished several feats in the course of her career, earning numerous awards including eight X-Games Medals. In 2004, she became the first female to skate the much revered DC Mega Ramp. Meanwhile, adding to Hawkins’s professional success and fame is her enviable marital relationship with Travis Pastrana. Read on to get all the details about her career and personal life.
Who is Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins?
The professional skater was born Lindsey Adams Hawkins on 21st September 1989. Her birthplace is San Diego, but she grew up in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, both in California, United States. Hawkins also spent some of her early years in Mexico, precisely in the Nayarit village of Sayulita. Hawkins started going by “Lyn-Z” as a nickname while she was in her fourth grade. The moniker gradually replaced her first name as well as became her professional title.
Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins was athletic right from childhood and began skateboarding and surfing at the tender age of six. She also engaged actively in other sports including basketball, baseball, gymnastics, and soccer. She, however, officially ventured into skateboarding after her older brother purchased an Encinitas YMCA membership card for her.
Not long after her professional debut in 2004, Hawkins grew in her career, becoming the first woman to ride on the DC Mega skateboard. She achieved the feat at the young age of 15, at which she also became the youngest skater to receive the X-Games gold medal. Among her major sponsors are Nixon Watches, Birdhouse Skateboards, Kicker, and Volcom, among others.
Unfortunately in 2005, Hawkins sustained a broken arm and a torn ACL in the course of her sport. The latter had taken surgery to heal. Owing to the ugly development, Lyn-Z missed several subsequent games. She, however, substituted her absence with serving as the on-camera host for the September 2006 female competition held in West 49 Canadian Open in Hamilton, Ontario.
By 2007, Hawkins had recovered fully to resume skateboarding. She, therefore, returned to competition the same year, winning X-Games XIII Women’s Vert Gold Medal. In 2008, she finished second place in the tournament. The next year, 2009 saw her take back the gold medal in the same competition. On 21st November of the same year, Hawkins emerged the first female skater to land a 540 McTwist at the Quiksilver Tony Hawk Show in Paris, France.
In addition to skateboarding, Lyn-Z Hawkins also competes in professional snowboarding and is gradually rising in the sport. She has also appeared in a number of video games including Tony Hawk’s Project 8 (where she grabbed the title of the second playable female skater), and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD. She has also featured in some skateboarding documentary videos such as Getting Nowhere Faster.
Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins’ Relationship with Travis Pastrana
Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins’ husband, Travis Pastrana is an American motorsport/car racing athlete, sports show host, and stuntman. He was born Travis Alan Pastrana on 8th October 1983. Just like Lyn-Z, Travis is also very successful in his career, with several medals ad accolades to his credit. He is a co-creator and leading star of Nitro Circus, an action sports TV show.
Hawkins became engaged to Pastrana in 2011. Pastrana’s proposal was an epic event that took place at the Nitro Circus Live World Tour held in Las Vegas on the 4th of June of the said year. The Motorsport champion had halted the show in the middle of events and to everyone’s surprise (including Hawkins), got down on a knee and popped the big question to his skateboarder ladylove! She had no idea he was going to propose at the event! The lovebirds subsequently tied the knot on October 29th of the same year, in California.
The couple has since welcomed two lovely daughters. Their first child named Addy Ruth was born on 2nd September 2013. The second, Bristol Murphy arrived on 9th February 2015. Meanwhile, Addy is already showing a keen interest in her mother’s skateboarding career.
