As Swier recounts, she later returned to her birth state of New York where she attended New York University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Mass Communication and Media Studies in 2007. How Did She Become Darren Criss’ Wife?
Although sources claim that they have been together since 2012, truth is, the love birds have been an item since 2010. However, nothing went public until 2013 when they both spilled the beans one year since Mia Swier began working on the show Glee. After dating for more years since then, the couple announced their engagement in 2018; news that sent the social media space agog.
They tied the knot on February 16, 2019, after dating for over seven and a half years. Together, Criss and Swier run a Los Angeles-based piano bar, Tramp Stamp Grannys. Opened in April of 2018, the outfit is meant to offer what they both called pretty booze and tasty tunes. The name of the bar was a tribute to her lively grandmother. Following Darren’s Emmy win in September 2018, the couple went on an outing with his parents.
What Did Mia Swier Do Before She Met Criss on Glee?
Mia Swier’s earliest career record dates back to her days in college. While studying at New York University, she worked as a Production Assistant at the White Cherry Entertainment. Around that period (2004-2006), Swier worked to produce several national live-televised events such as the SuperBowl and Thanksgiving Day Parade. In her sophomore year, in 2005, she became a Production Intern at ABC Television Network. The following year, however, she moved to USA Networks and began working as a Nashville Star Production Assistant.
2007 was a big year for Mia Swier’s fledgling career; she’d begun working on the production team of NBC’s insanely popular live TV show, Saturday Night Live. For reasons we’re yet to flesh out, two years was all it took to change posts again. This time, she joined Showtime Networks Inc., as an Associate Producer. As AP, Swier produced promotional content for a variety of TV shows and cinematic films, including Dexter, The Twilight Saga, and a few other documentary films.
It was within this period that she (alongside Dan Bricker) co-founded the film production company Effin Media under which her earliest works including a short mockumentary titled A (Not So) Civil Union and the short psycho-thriller Somewhere Between were produced. After three years at Showtime Networks Inc., Swier joined Fox Network’s Special Ops department in 2012. She worked on shows such as The Mindy Project, Teen Choice Awards and of course, Glee, in which her now-husband starred as a gay character.
