Mkhize was born and raised in the KwaZulu-Natal settlement of Umbumbulu, where she was nurtured by her mother, Florence Mkhize, an anti-apartheid activist and ANC veteran – the eThekwini Municipality’s Florence Mkhize Building in Durban’s CBD is named after the late heroine. Shauwn Mkhize’s father was also an avid anti-apartheid, activist as well as ANC veteran like his wife. However, he met his untimely death in 1991 when he was shot by a policeman. Shauwn also lost a brother to a similar incident the following year.

With regards to Mkhize’s educational background, not much has been revealed about where she got her basic education but it is known that ML Sultan Technikon, now known as the Durban University of Technology, awarded her a Diploma in Accounting. However, there is no other record of the businesswoman acquiring more certificates as she would go on to start working in the financial departments of a number of firms after getting her diploma in 1996.

Shauwn Mkhize’s Hard Work Earned Her The Royal AM Football Club

For several years Shauwn worked in the financial department of different firms until she was inspired to start her own businesses to provide a better living for herself and her family. Mkhize started off with little initiatives from the local government, such as feeding programs, painting, and construction work via Zikhulise – a construction company that her mother had started before her demise. Her construction company also served as the bedrock for several other investments, including becoming the owner of the notable Royal AM Football club.

Mkhize bought the club in 2019 when she left the Royal Eagles football team she co-owned with her ex-husband, Mpisane. As of then, the club was called Real Kings, and it was a second-division team, but she will later rename it Royal AM. Although the amount she bought the club was not revealed, she was named president of Royal AM Football Club in October 2019.

Although Royal AM is a PSL-affiliated South African football club situated in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, they began to compete in the DSTV Premiership after the Durban businesswoman became its owner. More so, Shauwn and her son Andile Mpisane spent  R50 million to buy Bloemfontein Celtic – the club plays in leagues such as South Africa National Div 1, South Africa Premier, South Africa Cup, World Club Friendlies, Europe Friendlies.

The Businesswoman Is Also A TV Sensation

Since its premiere on DSTV channel Mzansi Magic, the businesswoman’s reality show, Kwa Mam’Mkhize, has been a huge hit with fans. The show delves into the Mkhize/Mpisane family history, as well as the lives of the people closest to them. Shauwn Mkhize is basically the show’s main protagonist with notable appearances from her son, Andile Mpisane, and popular stepdaughter, Sbahle Mpisane. From their appearance on the show, it is obvious that they are always willing to give Shauwn all the support she needs but the same cannot be said about the businesswoman turned TV star’s ex-husband who is not in support of her reality show.

Notwithstanding the mixed reactions from her family, Shauwn’s reality TV show, Kwa Mam’ Mkhize, which started in January 2020 on Mzansi Magic, has continued to soar. At the 2020 Hollywood American Prestigious Awards, the show won Best Reality TV Show. More so, in 2021, Shauwn Mkhize received her first acting role in the popular drama series, Uzalo. Dawn Thandeka King, Nompilo Maphumulo, and Thuthuka Mthembu are among the stars of the soapie Uzalo, which she joined. According to the businesswoman, she had not auditioned for the part or exhibited any interest in it at all. She was approached by the production crew, who offered her a nice contract.

They had to come up with a strategy to spice up Uzalo’s tale and Shauwn Mkhize was the best candidate because she was already a reality TV sensation from her reality show, plus the fact that she is a well-known businesswoman. She made her debut appearance in March 2021, playing a mysterious, affluent woman who completes the purchase of the KwaMashu Kingdom Church.

Shauwn Mkhize’s Has Over R300 Million Attached To Her Name

Shauwn Mkhize’s corporate empire has certainly brought her a lot of wealth. Her own riches, on the other hand, are rarely discussed however, new estimates claim that the Royal AM owner is worth at least R300 million ($20 million). She is clearly enjoying her reign over her investments, and multiple sponsorship deals keep rolling in every now and then. The astute businesswoman also keeps enlarging her real estate investments and as such, she continues to build her brand and expand her enterprises to different parts of the country.

Her flamboyant lifestyle is also proof that Shauwn Mkhize is extremely wealthy and one of her priced possessions is a multi-million rand mansion in the La Lucia area that she purchased in 1995. She then purchased two estates, which she eventually united to create a mansion for herself. It is also gathered that she paid R3.5 million for one of the residences she purchased in 2007 and would go on to build a showroom for her fleet of automobiles, which includes a Maserati Pininfarina, an Aston Martin, a Porsche Turbo, and a Ferrari, among others.

More so, Shauwn Mkhize spent R2.9 million in 2014 on another property to develop an entertainment pad for her son – Andile whom she had also given a Mercedes Benz G63 AMG as a gift some time ago.

The South African Businesswoman Is An Avid Philanthropist

With millions of Rands at her disposal, Shauwn Mkhize gives back to her community in KwaZulu-Natal through charitable programs. She had the honor of working closely with the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture in January 2020, and she was given the honor of selecting a school to which she would like to donate – she gave Umlazi ComTech High School shoes and sanitary pads.

From all her philanthropic work it is evident that Mkhize is a feminist at heart and a leader in the fight against gender-based violence against women and children, as well as HIV and AIDS. Her humanitarian endeavors have primarily benefited women and children in and around KwaZulu-Natal to date. The Woman of the Year award was given to her at the 2020 Hollywood And African Prestigious Awards, which highlighted her achievements in both business and philanthropy.

Of recent, she teamed up with SABC 1’s Expressions and the Department of Correctional Services to deploy jail prisoners to help build 20 houses for the underprivileged. This project kicked off in April 2021 and has been quite successful so far.
