JBJ is a sub-group that debuted out of Produce 101, consisting of six members who almost made it to Wanna One. JBJ members officially debuted on October 18th, 2017, under Fave Management. The name JBJ is an acronym for ‘Just Be Joyful’ and its fans are referred to as Joyfuls. The group members have been able to achieve huge success in a very short amount of time, with hit singles like Fantasy and My Flower gaining them legions of fans and selling more than 100,000 records.
Who Were The JBJ Members?
Before JBJ disbanded, it was made up of six members; Donghan, Kenta, Taehyun, Sanggyun, Hyunbin, and Longguo.
Before joining JBJ, Donghan was part of a dance group called DOB. He was the Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer, and Maknae of JBJ. Born as Kim Dong-han on July 3rd, 1998, His hobbies include watching movies, performances, and dramas and he is also very skilled at aikido. Donghan is now a solo artist as well as a huge BTS fan.
Takada Kenta, whose Korean name is Go Geon-tae, was the main vocalist and lead dancer of the now-defunct JBJ. Born on January 10th, 1995, Kenta is Japanese. Before becoming one of JBJ’s members, he trained for a year and three months.
Born as Roh Tae-hyun on October 15th, 1993, Taehyun was the leader, main dancer and lead vocalist for the K-pop group JBJ. Before all of that, however, he was a trainee under YG Entertainment and fter JBJ packed up, he became a member of another K-pop group HOTSHOT.
Sanggyun was born Kim Sang-gyun on May 23rd, 1995. He was JBJ’s main rapper. Before becoming one of JBJ’s members, he was a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment. He was also a member of Topp Dogg, debuting as A-Tom in 2013. He and Kenta officially debuted as a duo under the name JBJ95.
Hyunbin’s real name is Kwon Hyun-bin and he was born on March 4th, 1997. He was the lead rapper for JBJ. He became an athlete student after middle school, taking up fencing and later baseball. He studied abroad in Japan, joining the school’s baseball team. He debuted as a solo act in August 2019 as VIINI.
Longguo was born in Helong, Jilin, China on March 2nd, 1996. His birth name is Jin Longguo while his Korean name is Kim Yong-guk. Longguo was the main vocalist for JBJ. He is now a member of the duo Longguo&Shihyun and he’s also under Choon Entertainment. Before joining JBJ, he was a trainee under Cre.Ker Entertainment.
Why Did They Disband?
On March 14th, 2018, Fave Entertainment, the agency that manages JBJ, announced that the group’s contracts would be expiring. However, they expressed hopes for the possibility of contract renewals for the JBJ members. Despite negotiations and the members expressing interest in contract extensions, Fave Entertainment decided that they would not be extending the contracts. After releasing their last album New Moon on April 17th, JBJ members went on a final concert in Seoul that spanned two days, with the last concert being held on April 22nd. On April 30th, the group officially disbanded.
What Are They Doing Now?
Kim Sang-gyun returned to his former agency, Hunus Entertainment, and the representative of the agency released an official statement that he will not rejoin XENO-T or promote with the group. Sanggyun and his bandmate, Takada Kenta, will be cast members of web drama Barefoot Diva and they were reported to be playing main roles. The two had also appeared in an interview for Innerview, adding JBJ’s “Call Your Name” in the background to greet their fans, the Joyfuls.
Kim Dong-han took a break after JBJ disbanded and went to Japan with Takada Kenta for a short trip. On June 19th, 2018, he announced his debut as a solo artist. He made his solo debut with the release of an EP titled D-Day in June 2018 and his very first single music video was titled Sunset.
Kim Yong-guk had debuted as a duo before joining JBJ and many of his fans assumed that he would continue to promote as a duo with another trainee from his agency, Choon Entertainment. He was chosen to be one of the MCs of The Show, together with NCT Dream’s Jeno and CLC’s Ye-eun.
