XXXTentacion was a controversial young rapper, a hip-hop singer and American songwriter, who was prone to violence even though he was truly talented. He had a very brief career before he was murdered in June 2018 and just like Tupac Shakur whom he once said is his inspiration, his songs were also released posthumously and they peaked on the music charts, and on the billboards after his demise. He was honored posthumously for his unique style of music in the music industry.

XXXTentacion’s Biography

XXXTentacion was born as Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy in one of Broward’s County, called Plantation, Florida on 23rd January 1998 to Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy Sr and Cleopatra Bernard. He had 3 siblings; an elder sister Arianna Drew Onfroy and younger brother Aiden Onfroy. His other sibling was a half-sibling from his father. He spent most of his childhood with his mother and grandmother because his father was in and out of the jailhouses.

The young star was said to have had a mixed ancestry Egyptian, Indian, German, Jamaican and Italian and he was also an American citizen. Onfroy had his education in Margate Middle School and Piper High School but he was rusticated from the school in his 10th grade after he was involved in a brawl.

Life and Career

Officially, the rapper’s career in music kick-started in June 2013 with the released his first single News/Flock after his release from juvenile prison. He and Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne became fast friends and Clevon had the nickname Ski Mask the Slump God. They started doing freestyle raps together and made songs which became Extended Plays (EPs).

XXXTentacion became very popular on Sound-Cloud where he released most of his works in small nuggets and EPs. He later dropped his first single Vice City and followed it up with an EP titled The Fall on 21st November 2014. The same year, a collaboration song titled Members Only Vol. 1 in which he featured his friend Slump God was also released with a vol. 2 in 2015.

His style of music was a very unconventional hip-hop blend of songs laced with heavy guitar and instruments sounds. His fame grew after he released his song Look at Me which eventually became a sleeper’s hit garnering a platinum certification in August 2017 and also peaking at No.2 at the US Billboard.

Furthermore, he kept dropping his EPs on the SoundCloud while he worked as a customer service agent for a firm. Unable to blend the two, he had to quit his job to concentrate fully in his music career. In 2016, barely 3 years after he left juvenile prison, he was again arrested for robbery, weapon assault, battery (of his then-girlfriend), witness tampering, among other charges.

This delayed the release of his first album Bad Vibes Forever as he sent to prison and he was later released in April 2017. Record labels started coming for him to sign him on their labels after the single Look At Me broke out massively in the wake of 2017 and XXXTentacion chose Empire Records over the rest.

He proceeded on his first national and promotional tour for his song Revenge, a tour that ended badly as it was marred by violence including the shooting of the rapper’s cousin in June 2017. The song Revenge hit the ground in May 2017 alongside his 4th mixtape Members Only Volume 3.

His first album 17 finally dropped in August 2017 and it had songs like Revenge, Fuck Love and Save Me among others which were a great success as it sold well over 86,000 units in its first week of release and the 7 tracked album also climbed up to the No.2 spot on the Billboards 200 pumping up the wave with its unique blend of sounds.

He announced through social media in November 2017, while serving a house arrest sentence that he has three upcoming albums he would release in 2018 and then he went ahead to release yet another EP titled A Ghetto Christmas Carol in December 2017.

XXXTentacion was embroiled in several controversies throughout his lifetime and in his career. He feuded with quite a few of other artists, one of which is his close friend Ski Mask the Slum God, Drake (whom he called out for using the same rap flows in his KMT song) among others.

His music video in which he held a white child in an upside down lynching position was called to question though he later deleted the video months after from his very active YouTube Channel that had a massive traffic of 13 million views and subscribers. He defended the scene by saying he was portraying that all lives mattered not just the blacks.

Net Worth

XXXTentacion was estimated to be worth $ 2 million before his unfortunate demise. He owned the record label Bad Vibes Forever and collaborated with other record companies like Capitol and Caroline whom he signed $6 million deal to produce songs for him and some other artists.
